Is your garden starting to look like a mess? You have a number of options. You can roll up your sleeves and get the work done yourself, or you hire a complete garden design service in Melbourne  or wherever you live to come and do it for you.

Of course, before you get started, you’ll need a few ideas of what you want to do to get the garden looking its best again.

You could leave all the ideas to the pros, but would it then really be your garden? Here are a few ideas to get you started. Hopefully, they’ll inspire you to come up with a list of more specific things you want in your own garden.

1. Build a More Natural-Looking Fire Pit

Some features in the garden can make it look worse because they look so out of place. Bright-colored stones and plastics, not to mention great big sheets of metal, don’t always look very natural in a garden setting.

Therefore, using stones of a similar color to the natural stones in your garden or wider area can help something very man-made like a fire pit integrate much more seamlessly with the garden as a whole.

Of course, people will still be able to spot it, but when your fire pit doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb, it helps the rest of the garden’s natural beauty and color to come through more effectively.

2. Flowers, Flowers Everywhere

When you want to spruce up your garden on a bit of a budget, there’s nothing quite like flowers to get the job done.

Compared to installing larger features or stone items like garden tables, birdbaths and statues, buying and planting flowers is a lot more cost-effective. It does take more physical effort, however, so there is that part.

Buying low-maintenance but colorful flowers like pansies, for example, is a great option. So long as these flowers have enough sunshine — a commodity we in Australia are hardly short of — they will essentially look after themselves but for a bit of water every now and then.

Their rich and vivid color is eye-catching and despite being among the most common flowers anywhere, they consistently impress.

3. Use Colourful Planters and Pots

Why only get color from your flowers? Why not brighten the place up using the planters and pots as well? If you don’t like anything too garish, then opting for more natural earthy colors for your planters is fine.

For those gardens with more vivid and sharp colors, pots that are more equal to that color task seem to be in order!

4. Cut the Grass and Remove Weeds

Another budget-friendly move you can take is to simply cut the grass and take away any weeds that you see.

Not only does this help the garden to look neater and more orderly, but it will also discourage various types of pests from taking root in your garden, including dangerous pests such as snakes and spiders.

Certain invasive insects like stink bugs also like to take refuge in the more heavily vegetated parts of your garden and can become a real problem if not dealt with. Keeping the grass and hedgerows trimmed is a great start to that.

5. Power Wash the Patio

Power washing your stone patio is a lot like giving the outside of your house a fresh coat of paint. You don’t realize just how transformative and powerful it can be until you see the effects for yourself.

And if you have a deck or a decked patio, you can do the same. While you are at it, you can make sure that every hole in your deck is covered well. If you do not want to go through the hassle of making custom plugs for those, then you can opt for ready-made ones. You can easily find suitable coordinating decking plugs that can solve your problem in a jiffy.

6. Invest in a Little Landscaping

Finally, if you do have more of a budget to use, then why not invest in a professional landscaping company to come and do the design for you? They can create new features, and develop the space in a way that everyone will derive more joy and satisfaction from it.
