Knobs

Knobs for kitchen cabinets and drawers pretty much come down to aesthetic appeal or what some call the “ohh shiny factor”.

Whether you are looking to save money or feel that price is not an issue, the best thing to do is find a brand or two within your price and quality range. While looking at nothing but your chosen brands select the kitchen cabinet door knobs and drawer pulls that you like best.

If you are having a hard time choosing which cupboard knob and pull designs you like best, purchase one of each of your finalists.

Many stores will allow you to return unused kitchen cabinet knobs. If you are concerned though, ask customer service for their policy on returns.

Once you have decided which style matches your cabinets the best, take count of how many knobs and how many pulls you will need as well as how many hinges needed for all of your kitchen cabinets and drawers.

Hinges

Many kitchen accessory brands carry cabinet door hinges that match their knobs and pull. Although you can choose hinges that hide on the backside of your cabinets.

As with the kitchen cabinet knobs, the hinges mainly are part of the aesthetic appeal. That of course is not their only function though.

When choosing cabinet hardware hinges you will need to check how much weight they will support. Some hinges are only designed to hold up laminated kitchen cabinets, which do not weigh as much as a solid wood door.

The key with all of your cabinet door hardware is to find a happy balance between aesthetic appeal and functionality.

Neither feature should outweigh the other because if you choose shoddy hinges based on the fact that they are pretty, you will not be pleased when your beautiful new kitchen cabinet doors fall off.

Then again you will also be displeased if you choose the biggest baddest hinges that will never fall down and support a metric ton but they are ugly and stand out like Haul Pack in the middle of a parking lot.

The moral of the story – never buy anything you will be unhappy with. You are remodeling your kitchen to make it look better; make sure it looks better to you.
