The countertop in the kitchen is the last place to reach. The reason is, it is likely to be the most greasy and messy. And you don’t want to get your towel greasy before wiping other less-messy surfaces.
For me
I’d start with the surface of the table in the living room. Then I’d proceed to the stools, my workstation table, and others before heading for the kitchen countertop.
But then Again
It boils down to your home arrangement. Right? Anyways, the rule here is to dust and wipe from the least to the messiest surface.

Wipe the Home Appliances
Very Important
Wiping the home appliances you’re leaving behind is a great sign of concern for the incoming residence. And most time, it doesn’t take much time or effort.
Now
If it’s a big house with a lot of appliances (HVAC, washer machines, water filtering systems), you need hands. I suggest letting a professional move out cleaning company do the work for you.
Also
You may need to repair broken appliances. Right? This becomes easy if your HVAC maintenance contract is still effective. You just have to make a call to reschedule your plan for the last day.

Vacuum the Floor
Next Up
All the dirt, dust bags, and liquid mess from all that dusting and wiping, most of them end up on the floor. You can check to confirm using a spotlight.

Grab your vacuum cleaner to suck in the solid debris. And as always, start from the least messy room to the dirtiest. I usually start from the living room to the bedroom, then the kitchen.

Whichever you choose depends on how resourceful you are as per cleaning tools. You know, you wouldn’t go Cinderella with a mob and buckets if you had a steam mop for vinyl floors.

Steam mops are sweethearts. They make the whole cleaning thing easy, faster, and professional. And, you won’t get messy.

Some steam mops are multifunctional in the sense that you can also vacuum-clean with them. All you have to do is choose a quality one that will become a part of you in your new apartment.

Personally
I dislike moving into a new space with a lot of washing to do to the curtains. Urgh! So, I wouldn’t leave those curtains dirty for a new tenant as well whenever I am moving out.

If you’d rather not use the washing machine again just because you’ve just had it maintained for the new guy. I suggest getting a professional dry cleaner to take the job.

If you’re not reactive to the chemical-based washing solution, you can just handwash the thing.

There you go
Towel-dry and fan-dry the floor, the HVAC systems, and the wiped surfaces. But remember to switch off the fan after, before closing the doors behind you.
