What are the Effective & Easy Ways to keep the Plantation Shutters Clean?

Remember that the clean plantation shutters can help improve the look of your home! Unclean shutters can put a dent in the beauty of your home. Whether it is hardwood or faux wood, both need to be cleaned. But, each kind of shutter has a different way of cleaning. Here are some tips to help clean the different types of shutters from experts:

Wooden Shutters

If your plantation shutters are made of real wood, then you will be making the room look more elegant. Here are the tips to clean your real wood shutters:

  • Furniture Polish:

The real wood shutters accentuate the interior décor of your home. Just make sure that you clean them on a regular basis like you would clean wooden furniture. If the louvers and frames are made of real wood, then you need to use a polish that is used for wooden furniture. Polish the parts that are made of real wood.

  • Dust off the Dirt:

On a regular basis, you need to dust the dirt off the shutters. You do not need anything fancy! A simple dry cloth or a feather duster will do the job effectively.

  • Dryer Sheet:

Use a dryer sheet and run them over the louvers. This prevents dust from sticking to the surface of the louvers in the future. It will save you a considerable amount of time in the future for cleaning the shutters.

Faux Wood Shutters

You can also install faux wood shutters instead of the real ones. But, you will still need to clean them. Faux wood can add the same level of comfort as that of real wood. The feel may be different, but the look will definitely be similar. Here are the tips for cleaning those:

  • Damp Cloth:

All you need is a clean cotton cloth and some warm water. Soak the cloth in the warm water and wring out all the water. Wipe the louver and frames with the damp cloth. Make sure that the cloth is not too damp, this can ruin the shutters.

  • Vacuum Cleaning:

You can use the vacuum attachment of the vacuum cleaner to clean out the surface. Always try to use the thin nozzle and the brush attachment. This will help you clean the louvers effectively. Slide the nozzle gently across the louver. Do not overdo it; otherwise, you could end up damaging the shutters.

  • A Soft Detergent:

If a spot has formed on the louver and you need to clean it! A simple damp cloth will not work. You need to use a detergent. The detergent should not be too harsh. Use a detergent that is mild, preferably a shampoo. Never use a chemical cleaner. Any harsh chemical can have a hugely detrimental effect on the shutters.

You could always call professional cleaners. But, you need to keep the louver and frames clean on a regular basis. If you forget to do this, the problem that will arise is that the shutters will require a deep cleanup. The dirt will keep accumulating and it will ruin the look of the shutters.

Ensure that you find a good store for your shutters. The stores also have numerous kinds of blinds, curtains and much more! Reputed stores will offer both kinds of shutters. You could talk to the experts at the store; they can offer you more tips for cleaning the shutters.
