The shower is one of the most important parts of your house.

A morning shower can be invigorating and there is no better way to wash off the day and relax than by taking a shower at night. A broken shower or one that does not work very well can be a major inconvenience for you and your family.

There are a few things that might indicate that your shower is about to break.

Sedimentary Built-Up

In order to make water safe for people to consume, it is treated with chemicals. Water also has a lot of minerals in it.

The chemicals and minerals will eventually build up in the valves of the shower. If the lime and calcium from the build-up go into the head of the shower, it can cause poor water pressure.

Small Leaks

Leaks happen when the bolts and fittings on a showerhead are loose. When fixtures get older, their hinges can become weaker. Showerheads often become corroded over time.

Leaks can cause annoying drips and wastewater. This can be bad for the environment as well as your budget.

You may want to consider purchasing an energy-efficient showerhead. Although they originally had a reputation for being weak, they have recently been improved.

You are unlikely to feel any real difference and they will last longer and save you money on your water bill.

Changes in Water Temperature

If you try to enjoy an invigorating cold shower on a hot day and find that you are suddenly scolded by boiling hot water or if you suddenly get a blast of freezing water when trying to warm up with a nice hot shower, it may be a sign that your shower needs to be replaced.

A faulty water heater is the most common cause of a sudden loss of hot water. However, broken shower valves may also be the culprit when you experience a sudden drop or increase in temperature.

Old shower valves may not be able to keep hot water hot. You should replace your shower right away if you determine it has faulty valves. The problem will not go away any time soon.

Mold can Destroy a Shower

The Pacific Northwest isn’t only famous for its grunge music, it is famous for its grunge. There is a lot of mold and mildew here, because of all the moisture.

Bacteria grow rampantly in the region. If mold builds up in a showerhead, you may find it difficult to get rid of it. It can eventually corrode the metal and you may have to replace the showerhead.

Hiring a Contractor

It is always a good idea to hire a professional contractor for making improvements and repairs to your home. A licensed contractor can give you the necessary help with shower repair. They will be able to tell what is wrong with your shower very quickly.

You should find a contracting company that has an up to date license and a regular staff of trained home contracting professionals.

They should be able to recommend the right shower for your bathroom based on the design of your bathroom and the age of your house.

Your daily shower is something to which you should be able to look forward. Repairs may cost you a little bit of money, but it is worth it to be clean and comfortable.
