Introduction

The shower door in the bathroom, like any other restroom fixture, is a long-term investment. With proper maintenance, you can ensure their long-life while preserving them in reasonably good shape.

Soap build-ups, jammed joints, and leaky sills are some of the frequent problems of shower door which can be fixed in a jiffy and can be avoided with regular care.

Should your shower door eventually need repair, knowing how to fix a shower door will save you money, in the long run?

How to Fix Shower Door

Dregs of soap and shampoo or high mineral content in water can leave ugly stains on the surface of the shower doors.

To get rid of them on a daily basis, just scrub them with a sponge or a squeegee after you shower.

Once a month, wipe it with a mild powder cleaner and white polishing pads to get a totally blemish-free look, especially if it is clear glass.

For a permanent way out, install a water softener to your plumbing system to lower the salinity of the water.

Leaks are another recurrent hitch in bathroom paraphernalia. In shower doors, the sills and jambs leak because of worn-out caulks or loose screws.

If it is a washed-up caulk, cut it off patiently without scratching the door-pane and clean the surface with a 6-to-1 solution of water and bleaching powder.

Using a caulking tube, cautiously apply clear caulk on it as required, in the interior to make it less obvious. Dab it with a wet cloth to even it out into place.

Replacing old, tattered rubber strips and installing splash guards on ledges around the shower door if any, are instant solutions to runaway seepages that have been troubling you for a while.

In case the leaks are little puddles on the floor right outside the shower door, it is perhaps because of a damaged or faulty door-sweep.

In case of a crack in the door sweep, it must be dislodged from the door and replaced by sliding it into place between the bottom of the door and its track.

Fiddle with it until it is lodged properly and ensure that it does not poke out or easily come off, but smoothly skates on the track.

Mildew, grease, and dirt are the main causes of stiff doors and jammed ridges. Cleaning them with a cleaner containing baking soda and lubricating them with penetrating oil should do the trick in such cases.

If not, cracked rollers or wheels at the bottom of the door must be replaced with new ones. This can be done by removing the door from the trail and undoing the rollers to put up new ones.

Still, other shower door problems are conked out latches or bolts. Take the latch off the door using a screwdriver and inspect its condition.

In case it is broken, change with a replacement from your local hardware store.

Apply some lubricating oil to the handle and the latch-hole and alter its position and tighten the screws until fastening the door is markedly smoother.

Regular maintenance and understanding of how to fix a shower door. The shower door goes a long way in avoiding these problems.

Wiping away stains with squeegees every day and lubricating all moving parts of the door with a penetrating oil a couple of times a month keeps damages and jams at bay.
