Homeowners like to freshen up the interiors of their houses from time to time to keep the design appealing, trendy, and fresh. But if you’re looking to change the look and feel of your entire home, you should also consider improving your outside area.

When the weather is nice and pleasant, a tastefully arranged outside area can expand the total square footage of your house, providing you with additional room for living and entertaining.

Whether you have a garden with unlimited space for gathering or you’re dealing with a small backyard, there are plenty of creative ways to transform your outdoor space from blah to wow.

Make Use of Garden Statues

A garden statue isn’t something you may first think of when decorating your outdoor space, but it can be a great way to bring some life. A strategically positioned statue can add character and depth to an otherwise flat area. Furthermore, aside from beauty and elegance, you can also use it to give your landscape a touch of whimsy or playfulness.

Whichever look you’re aiming for, you can find garden statues in a variety of sizes and shapes, ranging from large to miniature, abstract, or realistic. They can also be made from various materials such as resin, concrete, and metal. This means you should have no trouble finding one that suits your taste and budget. But to get it right, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind.

  • First, consider the look and feel you’re looking to achieve in your garden. Do you want it to be fun and cute or do you prefer a more formal, classic appearance? This will help you limit your options and discover garden sculptures that complement the style of your outdoor space as a whole.
  • The size of your outdoor space and the available area should be then considered next. Choose outdoor sculptures that are appropriate for the area because you don’t want to overcrowd the space with them. Consider where you want to put them as well. Do you want them in the spotlight or tucked away in a more obscure location?
  • Last, but not least, make sure to consider the material used to make the statue. This is significant from a practical and aesthetic standpoint. For example, if you live in a location with severe weather, you’ll want to ensure that the material can resist the elements.

If you decide to add garden statues, keep in mind that you’ll have to maintain them just like the rest of your outdoor space. Instead of improving the look of your exterior, a sculpture covered in bird droppings, leaves, and debris will more likely clutter your yard and give it an untidy appearance.

Add a Water Feature

Including a water feature, such as a fountain or birdbath, can turn out to be an amazing way to spruce up your space. Water that is trickling together with the birds chirping around it will produce a relaxing atmosphere.

There are many different types of water features available. Choose the one that complements the theme of your space the most. But if you’re pressed for time, avoid large fountains since they might be difficult to maintain. Choose a straightforward, compact water feature instead. It will work equally well as a lovely focal point.

Pay Attention to the Perimeter of the Space

Typically, the borders of your outdoor space act as a delineation between your house and that of your neighbors. However, there are ways to style your perimeter so that it complements the rest of your outdoor design.

To make it more appealing, a great idea is to plant a row of trees or bushes along it. As an alternative, you can add a touch of flair to your fences by growing climbing plants alongside them.

Create a Beautiful Gravel Path

Any garden would benefit from having well-designed paths, both for navigation and for the aesthetic value they bring.

Consider creating gravel walkways throughout the space. Gravel is a straightforward but efficient material for paths since it requires little upkeep and is strong, long-lasting, and affordable. Using gravel may help solve any mud problems since it acts as a barrier between your feet and the ground, preventing your feet from getting muddy.

Add Seating That Swings

Adding a nice egg chair or hanging chair to your outdoor space can serve as an accent touch and also provide a relaxing area. For a bohemian look, choose a rattan egg chair or a hanging seat made of light fabric. If you love cottage ideas, a more conventional garden swing seat with room for plants on each side would be a better choice for a coherent design concept.

Brighten Up the Space

As the sun sets, a well-lit outdoor space will ensure a cozy atmosphere while also making it easier for you to walk securely. If you want flexibility based on the time of day and the ambiance you want to create, try adding layers of light.

For mixing cocktails and making other beverages, wall lights will give useful illumination, while pendant lights will maintain the lighting gently to create a lovely ambiance.

Depending on your desired style, you may then use more ornamental candles, lanterns, and string lights to further enhance these lighting. Always be sure to get outdoor lighting that is of high quality and works with LED bulbs. These are the most sustainable option since they are both energy-efficient and have extraordinarily long lifetimes.

Keep Toasty During the Evenings

The design of outdoor fireplaces has changed over the past several years, and if you want a little coolness after the sun sets, they make a chic accent. You can choose a portable design or one that is built in.

They are an improvement over regular fire pits since the chiminea form eliminates sparks and focuses heat upward and away from the user. This makes them a safer alternative for families than traditional fire pits.

Install a Pergola

Aside from adding shade, pergolas also help create zones and increase your living space. They’re also a great place for entertainment; all you have to do is pick a style that complements your outdoor space.

To choose the pergola’s style and material, take into account how you intend to use it. For instance, a pergola with an aluminum frame will have a modern finish, be more durable, require less upkeep, be rust-proof, and be appropriate for use all year round.

On the other hand, if you want to bring a more traditional feel to your outdoor space, consider a lovely wood frame. But do so only if you’re ready to invest more time into maintaining it by regular polishing and applying new coats of finish.
