Christmas is one of the best times of the year. The festive season is crammed full of joyful experiences, from singing carols to stuffing yourself with delicious Christmas dinners . It is a magical, beautiful time of the year.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the festive season is the chance to festoon your home with gorgeous Christmas decorations. From the crisp green of a fresh pine tree in the corner to row after row of twinkly fairy lights, Christmas decor brightens up every home.

For many people, Christmas decorations represent the high point of their interior decor efforts throughout the year, and families often lament the need to take down the seasonal decor when January rolls around and thoughts turn to the summer vacations.

But what if you didn’t have to?

Although leaving up Christmas decorations all year round is usually frowned upon, there’s no reason you can’t take advantage of the festive season to give your home a little design refresh.

Christmas and winter themes can be elegant and sophisticated at any time of the year, if you get them right, and allow you to keep some of the best elements of your Christmas decorations in place – making the magic of the season go even further!

So inspire yourself with that glacier cruise or take a few tips from your next Scandinavian adventure, and use the festive season as an opportunity to redesign a few of your spaces! Here are a few ways to incorporate seasonal design into your home decor.

Bring The Outdoors In

Greenery is a huge part of Christmas and festive decor. Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and swags are all crammed full of lush green leaves and branches, and there’s no reason you can keep a more natural ambiance going all year round.

Potted plants are a great way to add a touch of nature to your home, and there are plenty of species that grow successfully indoors and are extremely resilient.

Plants like snake plants, peace lilies, or philodendrons are extremely hardy and only need watering a couple of times a week, making them great for even the least successful gardeners!

Leave The Lights Up

Fairy lights are one of the most ubiquitous Christmas decorations, adding a touch of magic and wonder to any room and providing a delightful atmosphere.

But when January comes around, many people feel like they have to pack up the lights and put them away until next year. But there’s no reason why you can’t keep the lights up all year long!

There is nothing inherently ‘festive’ about fairy lights, so why not use them to decorate any (or all!) of the spaces in your home, from the bedroom to the living room, and even in the bathroom? They are a great way to add warmth to a room or highlight specific design accents.

Keep Your Candles

Candles are another quintessential part of Christmas, but like fairy lights, they can be used to decorate any room in your home at any time of the year! Candles add a warm, cozy atmosphere to any space, and are a wonderful way to change the mood of the room, particularly if you want a romantic or relaxing ambiance.

Scented candles add another dimension, and while smells like cinnamon, nutmeg, and pine might be best used during the festive season, there are plenty of other great scents that can stimulate a different sense throughout the year.

As you can see, with a little creativity Christmas decorations can be the starting point for a new design style in your home. Take the opportunity offered by the festive season and give your spaces a touch of magic with the best decor that Christmas has to offer!
