5 Easy DIY Home Improvement Projects

If like many, you’ve spent a lot of time at home this last year and have been pondering a home improvement list but don’t quite know where to start, we’ve put together a list of five easy DIY home improvement projects you can undertake.

1. Bathroom Revamp

Historically, bathroom renovations have been considered expensive because many people assume it needs to incorporate ripping out the plumbing and installing brand new fittings, but this isn’t the case.

If your bathroom has a perfectly functioning sink, toilet, and bath/shower, you don’t need to start from scratch. Instead, paint the tiles, wallpaper the wall with statement wallpaper, and put down a new linoleum floor.

All of this can be done in one to two days and will totally transform your bathroom – without all the hassle!

2. Kitchen Revamp

In the same way, you can renovate your bathroom in a day or two, you can also do your kitchen. Provided your kitchen units and countertops are in full working order, you don’t need to completely replace them to give them a new lease of life.

Once again, utilise tile paint to give your tiles a fresh look. For an extra contemporary feel, you can change the colour of the grout. This works particularly well for those with white tiles when dark grey grout is added. You can do this easily with a grout pen or paint.

Another quick way to transform the look of your kitchen is to paint the cupboard doors and install new handles and knobs. This will breathe new life into otherwise perfect cabinets and bring them into the 21st century.

3. Storage Hacks

If there’s one thing every house can benefit from, it’s more storage. That being said, finding affordable storage is tricky, not to mention finding the right size for the area you want to install it into.

An easy way around it is to make your own, and it’s not as hard as you think.

From wine racks and shelves to build in wardrobes and media stands, there’s not much you can’t make with a piece of discarded wood and a drill or some wood glue.

4. Panelled Wall

A recent trend that’s really taken off is panelled walls, and the good news is, you can achieve this stylish look with nothing more than strips of MDF and wood glue.

It’s a project that can automatically enhance the look of any room, and best of all, it takes less than a day to achieve. You can try either a half-panelled wall or a full panelled wall.

Painted in a dark colour like navy, this is a great way to give your house a healthy dose of classic elegance.

5. Door Painting

Contrasting colours are in, and you’d be surprised at how much of an impact painting your doors and door frames black can have – especially if your walls are a light colour like white or cream.

You can switch out the door handles with gold ones with a large backplate to really transform the look of the door. This works particularly well in older properties like those built in the Victorian era.

Whilst you’re painting your doors, you might want to consider painting your skirting boards and the spindles on your stair bannister to tie the whole look together.

These are just five easy DIY hacks. Hopefully, there’s something on this list you can get stuck into, no matter how much of a DIY novice you are!
