Energy efficiency is the motto for most homes.

But while many homeowners are striving towards making their home energy efficient, others don’t even know what an energy-efficient home entails. Neither do they know how to raise the energy efficiency of their homes?

Basically, energy efficiency means you are consuming less energy to do similar jobs, lessening your home’s energy waste, and saving money in the process.

To effectively raise your energy efficiency involves more than cutting your energy consumption. Instead, it requires you to be aware of how your energy is being used, where it is being wasted, and how it can be used more effectively to ensure that your home is deemed energy efficient.

Here are a few tips to help your home save energy and be more efficient. But before we delve into that, let’s look at the importance of an energy-efficient home.

Importance of an Energy-Efficient Home

Why should you strive towards building an energy-efficient home or making your home more energy efficient? Why are several people emphasizing the topic “energy-efficient?” Does it come with any benefit or importance?  Of course! And a lot of them.

An energy-efficient home comes with several benefits. Not only does this setup help you save money that would have been spent on wasted energy, but it also ensures that you do mother earth a favor by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Mind you, those are the basic benefits of an energy-efficient home. There are more of them.

Considering the immense benefits that come with increasing the energy efficiency of your home, you should do something about how you consume energy at home. If you buy into the idea of boosting your home’s energy efficiency, here are some helpful tips.

1. Reduce your Thermostat

Want to reduce the way you waste energy, lessen your energy bill and make your home more energy efficient? Why not consider lowering the temperature of your thermostat, especially while away from home.

Reducing the temperature of this device by just three to five degrees will lower your monthly utility bill and ensure that you consume less energy.

Based on statistics, reducing your thermostat by 10 to 15 degrees during the workday will help you save 5% to 15% annually. This is definitely something you should try out!!

2. Close all Windows

Faulty or unsealed windows are one of the major causes of energy wastage in Georgia. When your thermostat is active during hot weather, you expect it to cool your space in a few minutes.

But with a faulty window, your space gets cooled slowly (as cold air escapes), resulting in an increased utility bill. To fix this issue, consider inspecting your windows and sealing the air leaks present. If you have drafty windows, you can add weatherstripping around the frames.

Also, if your outdoor windows are faulty beyond repairs, the best thing to do is get a replacement from a Marietta Georgia siding window company. Closing gaps and cracks is a surefire and cheap way to reduce energy costs.

3. Ditching Incandescent Bulbs

An incandescent light bulb is your typical light bulb. It is that bulb that comes to mind when someone mentions a “light bulb.” This type of bulbs produces light by heating a wire filament to a temperature that yields light.

While incandescent bulbs are pretty cheap and are warm sources of light, the main downside about this bulb is that it has poor energy efficiency. In addition, they boast of a terrible lifespan.

Considering the downsides of these bulbs, it makes sense to ditch them (if you have them) and go for energy-efficient alternatives (e.g., halogen bulb) to save your electrical bill and stop the habit of always purchasing bulbs.

4. Always go for Energy Star Products

If you really want to make your home energy efficient or boost its efficiency, I recommend you always buy energy star products. These products, like refrigerators, TV sets, stoves, washers, adhere to energy-efficient specs outlined by the EPA.

Energy-efficient appliances consume 10-15% less energy than typical appliances. In addition, it helps lessen greenhouse emissions. If one of your home appliances is faulty and you wish to replace it, consider going for an Energy Star-certified product.

Conclusion

Having an energy-efficient home is the latest trend, which will certainly stay long due to the rising cost of electricity bills and the need to prevent global warming.

So if your home is less energy-efficient, it is best you make an effort to raise its energy efficiency and save yourself from outrageous energy bills.
