For some people, moving out of their home can be an emotional occasion, tinged with memories of good times.

While many outright own their homes, a steadily increasing number of households are being privately rented.

Looking to Make End-of-Tenancy Cleaning Stress-Free? Here’s How

According to Pew Research Center, in 2019 the number of households in that rented was somewhere in the region of 36.6%.

Sometimes, disputes can arise over how much of the deposit should be handed over upon the end of the tenancy. There is a possibility that landlords can withhold some, or even all, the deposit if they feel the property is not in the same condition it was given to the tenants in.

Tenants can become quite angry when they realize that they are not going to receive what they feel they are entitled to. This also affects the money they may be hoping to use to acquire a new place.

However, just by taking some simple steps, there is no reason that end of tenancy cleaning should cause you any problems at all. If you wish to ensure that the end-of-tenancy cleaning process goes as smoothly as possible for you, and you receive your full deposit back, please check out these handy tips.

Cleanliness Starts with You

While the rigors of work and active social life can play havoc with the time available to you, it’s best not to let things get out of control.

You can keep your house clean easily with tips and tricks. Staying on top of things will reduce the amount of effort you may possibly have to make later when the decision has been made to move out.

If you are not up to the task in the cleaning department, it may be wise to enlist the help of some friends to help you get the premises in shape before the landlord inspects it.

Your personal workload will be reduced, plus the whole cleaning process will go a lot quicker. Friends will usually be willing to help, and the promise of a party in your new place may encourage them to get involved.

Consider Hiring Professionals

If you have any doubts about the cleaning job that you and your friends may be doing, there is certainly nothing to be lost by employing specialist move out cleaners to assist you. There are professional services available that can certainly boost your chances of receiving your full deposit back.

They will have all the necessary equipment needed to fulfill a thorough deep cleaning of the property. Years of experience will see them go about this in a highly efficient way.

You might be surprised at dirty areas that might have escaped your knowledge. Stubborn stains for example, where you may have struggled, can prove to be no challenge to dedicated cleaners.

Declutter Before the Main Cleaning

Commonly, over time people accumulate things that they no longer need or want. While some find it hard to deal with this clutter, there are many ways to approach this problem. It can be difficult if you are moving out and trying to clean, with unnecessary belongings hanging around the house.

If you are insistent, you must keep all this stuff, which many are, be sure to remove them from the premises to make the clean as easy as possible.

Put items into boxes, and if possible, move them to your new place. If you are not able to do this, consult family or friends regarding storing the items on their premises until you can move in.

Form a Checklist

Between all the excitement of moving out and the possible panic in trying to ensure you get your deposit back, it may feel like you are running around with a million things to do.

Before you begin your cleaning, gather your thoughts and make a checklist. This will ensure you won’t miss any areas that require attention due to rushing or forgetfulness.

Appliances, such as fridges or ovens for example, that were present on the premises when you moved in will all need to be cleaned thoroughly.

You must remember that your landlord will be looking out for anything that they may have to clean or repair after, which of course, will be coming out of your deposit.

Perhaps enquire with them about potential cleaning services which may have already tended to the premises in the past.

Summary

While your tenancy deposit is protected, this hasn’t prevented disputes between tenants and landlords. Tenants have been known to be disappointed with what they feel they are being offered by landlords when their tenancy comes to an end.

Maintaining good standards of cleanliness throughout their tenancy can certainly reduce any serious issues arising in the future.

Professional services should be contacted if need be, and these can only increase your chances of reclaiming your deposit. Removing clutter from the premises will make the task of deep cleaning more straightforward.

Simply taking a breather and writing down everything that needs to be done, will ensure nothing is forgotten and pounced on by the landlord.
