A conservatory can serve as a stylish bridge between your indoor and outdoor space.

It all depends on how you decorate it. Turn it into a welcoming extension of your living space, a recreational area, a private room for relaxation, or a spot to enjoy tea with your guests. Forget the idea that conservatories need to be plain glass without proper furniture.

Here are some design ideas to turn that boring old conservatory into a lovely space that you, your family, or friends can enjoy.

Give your home a chic transitional space where you can enjoy the outdoors’ beauty and breathtaking views in a controlled and protected indoor environment.

Observe Continuity in Materials

Turn your conservatory into a warm and welcoming extension of your living space where you can do all sorts of activities. Welcome guests, play with your kids or enjoy a relaxing work environment with the appropriate furniture.

To give it a seamless continuation from the main living area, use the same materials such as floor tiles and others.

You can create a barrier between the indoors and sheltered outdoor space with a glass sliding door that makes your living room relatively bigger.

Use matching furniture or observe similar color patterns to give your interior design a sense of continuity. You can also opt for an open-plan space, giving your conservatory the same elegant look like the rest of your home.

Turn it Into a Home Extension

Give your living or dining room an added space by turning your conservatory into an extension of a home. If there is a wall separating your sunroom from your main living area, you might want to switch it up by turning it into a vintage or glass-style sliding door.

Or, you can get rid of the barrier and replace it with a subtle divider.

Rearrange your furniture to maximize the space. Do not be afraid of adding a few additional touches to make it cozier.

Spice it up by placing more comfortable seating or perhaps a cushioned swing seat for your leisure activities. Explore with printed fabrics as a cover for your seat cushions and throw pillows.

Control the Lighting

Most people think that installing blinds or curtains in their conservatories will block the lights that are supposedly coming through the glass exterior.

However, elegant-looking drapes can complement those transparent conservatory walls perfectly. Create a warm linear shadow through window treatments to easily control the light that enters the room.

Install elegant lighting fixtures or fairy lights near the ceiling to make the top seem magical. You can also opt for a glass conservatory roof to give you the perfect star-gazing opportunity at night.

Line twinkling or string lights along with the window frame, or wrap them around the tree branches and create your own mystical view.

Make it Functional

Think of the main activity that you would like to have in your conservatory. You can turn it into an outdoor office, an indoor garden, an extended kitchen or living space, and many more.

Once you have an idea in mind, do not be afraid to supply it with the essential furniture and accessories to make it look chic, functional, and stylish.

Add in a library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and plush pillows or sofas for comfortable reading. You can also install a log-burning stove to keep you warm during cold winter nights.

There are dozens of ways to make your conservatories fully-functional while maintaining their tropical utopian vibes.

Rattan Furniture

Give your traditional sunroom a classic-modern look using bold potted foliage and rattan seats, tables, and many more. Explore with different textures and patterns to incorporate into the design. Colorful leaf blinds and lanterns accentuate the relaxed and comfortable look of your Tropicana house glam.

Modify your windows using wooden frames or install a glass sliding door to serve as a divider between the main room and the conservatory.

Do not be afraid to fill it up with tropical plants like palms and desert cacti, complementing the sun-proof furniture. Incorporate leaf prints into the table runners, fabric, cushion covers, blinds, and other interior accessories.

Add Potted Plants

Your sunroom gives you immediate visual access to your backyard, where luscious foliage thrives under the sun. However, these transitional areas need to incorporate both indoor and outdoor elements.

Bring in large pots and have smaller trees inside your conservatory where it can still enjoy direct sunlight.

Bringing in your greenery can brighten up dull corners of the room. Experiment with your plants and add in a couple of oversized structural plants.

Hang planters with cascading creepers, or install a shelf to place in smaller potted foliage. Bring your plants indoors to create a balance between your indoor and outdoor elements within the conservatory.

Play With Depth

Dig down and build a cave-like sanctuary with stone walls, rustic floors, and steps, wicker furniture, enclosed in painted clad walls.

Play with the depth of your conservatory area by lowering it to a foot or two below your home’s original flooring. Use stone floors to keep it cool on a sunny afternoon.

If you want a modern-looking conservatory, replace the stone with tiles and neutral-colored walls. Use brick walls with large glass windows that reach only until the main home’s floor elevation.

Create a sunken garden look by adding planters with exotic-looking plants and bold potted foliage to brighten up dull areas.

Sunken-style conservatories can serve as a magical hideaway where you can enjoy a natural environment no matter the weather. It all depends on how you put the pieces together.

Use blinds or printed curtain drapes to give your sunroom privacy if you wish. You can also turn it into an alpine getaway using wooden or cabin-style furniture.

Refurbishing your conservatory’s look does not have to be expensive. In fact, you can play around with room furniture and accessories that you already have.

Style it any way you want and do not forget to incorporate both indoor and outdoor elements in the design. If you are not fond of large plants, you can always give it an outdoorsy vibe with printed fabric, wall paintings, and many more. Be creative and expand your design ideas.
