Online schooling warrants a comfortable chair that you can sit on for longer hours.
Like working, you also spend roughly 6-8 hours on the desk. So, choose the wrong chair and you can end up with a bad back and a tired body.

So, we have listed our top 3 picks for the study chair. We have tried and tested these chairs and find them to be the most comfortable for online schooling.
Herman Miller Mirra 2
Research from Standing Desk Topper shows that the Herman Miller Aeron is one of the more preferred chairs for work.
But one of the reasons why we chose the Mirra 2 instead is because of the hefty cost of the Aeron.
The Mirra 2 is a combination of sleek aesthetics, reasonable cost, and ergonomics.
The Mirra 2 actually looks a lot like the Aeron, so it can be a more affordable alternative to the very expensive chair.
The Mirra 2 features a very modern and almost aerodynamic design. This aesthetics works for the Millennials and Gen Z.
We particularly love how the lifted armrests emulate the shape of a bird’s wings.
The back design of the Mirra 2 also makes it one of the coolest-looking ergonomic chairs.
And millennials and Gen Z love anything that combines unique aesthetics and functions. And speaking of function, the Mirra 2 is highly ergonomic.
The armrests are very comfortable and they can be adjusted in 4 ways. Also, it has several adjustable features that are also similar to that of the Aeron.
There’s the adjustable seat height, the tilt limiter, and the tension knob that will adjust the tension when you tilt the chair back.
And since it’s a Herman Miller chair, you can expect nothing but durable construction.
And this is important if you want to keep the tilt of the chair open. We love to keep the tilt open because this gives the body a nice lovely stretch and rest.
And to be able to confidently leave the tilt open, the chair has to be solid and well built.
And Mirra 2 was able to hold itself pretty well. So even if you are on the heavier side, you can indulge in this relaxing position without worrying that the chair will sway or give away.
You can also rock the chair back and forth. Your back tends to go limp and tired if it stays in one position.
And this back-and-forth motion is such a treat for your back. You can tilt the chair back and still feel safe in it.
And before we forget, the seat of the Mirra 2 has a rather unique material. You can adjust the chair depth by flicking the seat up and down.
The material is rather flexible. It uses the same material for the back. That’s why this chair can follow your spine’s movement.
And this is a unique feature that you will not be able to see with the Aeron. So, in terms of flexibility, the Mirra is more flexible than the Aeron.
And oh, it also has adjustable lumbar support. You can adjust it by tilting it up and down.
But what makes it better than chairs with adjustable lumbar is the tension of the lumbar support can be cranked up or loosened.
What we did not like about it? While the backseat is made of a softer and very flexible material, the seat is mesh.
It does not have pressure points but we find it a little too firm. So, this is for you if you don’t mind a firm seat.

IKEA Poang
Our next favorite is a rather unique chair from IKEA. This is a bit different from the ergonomic chairs that are often used for work.
The Poang has a thin wooden frame that seems like a continuous loop. It also has a cushioned seat.
The headrest features two layers of cushion so it can offer plush comfort. You can even sit back and take a nap on it.
The cushion continues to the backseats and the seat. But it tends to get thinner.
The cushion of the chair is actually continuous from the headrest to the seat. So the Poang is not an office chair, it’s more of an armchair or a lounge chair.
But despite that, it is very comfortable for sitting in front of the PC for several hours.
The IKEA Poang has a really nice feel to it, it’s more of a springy comfort. And it could even feel like you can lounge and chill on it.
When you sit on it, it gives a little bit, just enough to lend your back a nice retreat. It also feels a bit elastic, even the wooden frame has more to give to it.
Another advantage of this chair is its lightweight, so it’s easy to move it from one room to another.
Now for the not-so-good bit, the frame of the car only uses two tubular pieces. So, in terms of durability, it’s as you get what you pay for the scenario.
So over time, the tubular frames on the seat may loosen. That’s why we don’t recommend this for heavier sitters.
Overall, the IKEA Poang is an affordable seating solution for online schooling. It’s suitable for those looking for a very light and unique chair.
But you must not have a great need for ergonomics because this chair cannot be adjusted in any way. It’s for those looking for more plush comfort.
Also, the covering of the cushion is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some may find it cheap-looking. And since it’s made from cotton, expect it to be wrinkly.
If you do want the comfort of the Poang but do not like the feel and the look of the covering, IKEA has a very similar chair, the Pello.
The Pello is very similar to the Poang, except that the covering of the cushion is more aesthetically pleasing and doesn’t feel cheap.
Workpro Quantum 9000 from Office Home DEpot
Workpro Quantum 9000 is a mid-back all-mesh office chair. If you are into a mesh, it’s easy to fall in love with this office chair.
It’s also often compared to the Herman Miller Aeron. It actually takes the design of the expensive chair that it can pass off as its sibling.
The Quantum 9000 chair is a more affordable option than the Aeron. But we are happy how this chair was able to stand on its own.
Meaning, it feels solid and durable for its price. Also, we noticed that the chair used metal in connecting the important parts of the chair.
And that’s what makes it durable. But that’s what makes the chair pretty hefty too.
So, this is one thing to consider, it is heavier than an Aeron chair. It weighs twice as much.
So even if it’s solid, it doesn’t appeal to those who want a portable chair.
It also has sufficient adjustable settings. One of our favorites is the tilting mechanism. It feels solid and robust. Well, nothing about this chair feels cheap.
And like the Mirra 2, you can tilt it further back. And this can relieve pressure from sitting too long.
You can keep this tilt open or rock it back and forth. And it locks in place. It did not loosen and the chair was able to hold itself up.
But the Mirra 2 was able to give a smoother rocking motion. Though the Quantum 9000 can also rock back and forth, the Mirra’s feels smoother and more fluid.
You can also adjust the seat pan on the chair, so no problem if you have longer legs.
So, this chair can also be comfortable for the big and heavy. Taller users will even be able to find this more comfortable than Mirra 2.
Overall
Let’s make a quick comparison with our three top picks.
- For aesthetics, the Mirra 2 and the IKEA Poang stand out. The Mirra is a sleek and stylish ergonomic chair.
- While the Poang is a comfortable and sleek armchair. The Quantum, on the other hand, though it has an all-mesh material, can blend in a sea of mesh chairs.
- For ergonomics and adjustability, the Mirra 2 and the Quantum are at the same tiering. They just have several advantages over the other. The Mirra is more flexible while the Quantum can cater better to taller and bigger users. The Poang lacks this ergonomic feature. But surprisingly, it’s very comfortable for lightweight individuals.
- Durability-wise, the Mirra 2 and the Quantum office chair are solid and robust. The difference is the Quantum is really heavy. So that’s something to think of when deciding what to buy. The Poang, on the other hand, is very light, but it’s not the most durable. But for its price, we can’t really complain about it.
- The three chairs are rather comfortable and can be nice on the back when you’re sitting for 6-8 hours.
