Bed bugs are one of the most difficult pests to get rid of. They are small, elusive, and can survive for months without food. If you think you have bed bugs, it’s important to act fast. The longer you wait, the harder they will be to eliminate.

There Are a Few Things You Can Do to Get Rid of Bed Bugs

Vacuum Regularly

This will help remove any tiny bed bugs that are hiding in your home. Be sure to empty the vacuum bag after each use too, so that they don’t crawl out

Wash Bedding

Wash bedding at 50 degrees. This will kill any bed bugs present.

Use a Steamer

Using a steamer on non-washable items such as furniture will help kill any bed bugs hiding in these areas.

Ask a Professional Pest Control Company to Help

This is often the best option, as they will have the experience and knowledge necessary to eliminate the bed bug problem effectively. One of the methods that experts use is heat treatment.

Heat treatment is a process of using high temperatures to destroy bed bugs, and the reason it’s popular is that, unlike chemical treatments, it also kills bed bug eggs.

A professional pest control company will use specialized equipment to heat your affected rooms to the ideal temperature (above 50 degrees Celsius) and maintain that temperature for a period of time to make sure all the bed bugs are killed.

What Are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are small, blood-sucking insects that feed on humans. They are reddish-brown in color, oval in shape, and about the size of an apple seed. Bed bugs typically live in mattresses, bed frames, and headboards but can also be found in other furniture, such as chairs and sofas.

These pests are a nuisance because they cause itchy, red welts on the skin. Bed bugs are also difficult to eliminate once they infest an area. If you think you have bed bugs, it’s important to call a pest control professional to have them removed.

How To Identify Bed Bugs?

If you think you have bed bugs, there are a few things you can do to confirm it. Look for physical signs of bed bugs, such as:

  • Rusty or reddish stains on your sheets or pillowcase
  • Dark spots, which are bed bug excrement and may bleed on your fabric
  • Eggs and eggshells, which are small (about 1mm) and white in color
  • Shed skin, which looks like small brownish flakes

If you see any of these signs, it’s time to do a more thorough inspection. Start by checking your mattress and box spring for signs of bed bugs. Look for them in the fabric’s seams, tufts, and folds. Also, check under the mattress and box spring for dark spots or rusty stains.

If you don’t find anything on your mattress or box spring, check other areas of your bedroom where bed bugs might hide. These include furniture (especially beds, couches, and chairs), baseboards, electrical outlets, wallpaper, and picture frames. Again, look for the telltale signs of bed bugs: dark spots, eggs, eggshells, shed skin, or rusty stains.

If you think you’ve found bedbugs, it’s important to contact a professional pest control company right away. Bed bugs are difficult to get rid of on your own and will likely require treatment from a professional.

How Do You Get Bed Bugs?

Most people associate bed bugs with dirty environments, but they can live in any home. Bed bugs are attracted to warmth and the carbon dioxide we exhale, so they often congregate near where we sleep.

They are tiny insects that feed on blood; their bites can cause itching and redness. Bed bugs are often hard to spot, but there are a few telltale signs of their presence, as mentioned earlier in the article.

If you think you might have bed bugs, it’s important to act quickly. These pests reproduce quickly and can be difficult to eliminate once they take hold. You can of course try removing them with a vacuuming and steam cleaning DIY combo treatment, but it’s often just best to call a professional pest control company and specifically ask for heat treatment. Heat treatment is the only 100% effective solution to bed bugs.

How To Prevent a Bed Bug Re-Infestation?

As much as we would like to think that bed bugs are a thing of the past, they are still a reality for many people. If you have ever had bed bugs in the past, you already know how difficult they are to get rid of.

Even if at first it seems you successfully got rid of them, there is always the possibility of them returning. That is why it is important to learn how to prevent bed bug re-infestation.

One of the most important things you can do to prevent a bed bug re-infestation is to keep your home clean and clutter-free. Bed bugs are attracted to clutter because it gives them places to hide and breed.

If you have a lot of clutter in your home, it is time to start getting rid of it. Not only will this help prevent a bed bug infestation, but it will also make your home more enjoyable.

Another way to prevent a bed bug re-infestation is to inspect your home for signs of bed bugs regularly. You should be doing this even if you have never had an infestation.

Be sure to check all the obvious places where bed bugs could hide, such as in cracks and crevices, behind furniture, and in any other dark or secluded areas. If you do find any signs of bed bugs, be sure to contact a professional exterminator right away so they can take care of the problem before it gets
