A deep clean is more than just tidying up; it’s a chance to give your home a fresh start.

Cleaning Checklist: The Ultimate Guide to Deep Cleaning Your Home

Not only will your living space look great, but it will also be more sanitary. Dust and dirt can build up over time, especially in high-traffic areas, leading to allergies and other respiratory problems.

A deep clean can remove all of the built-up dirt, dust, and grime, leaving your home feeling clean and new again.

Clean Carpets and Upholstery

Deep cleans for carpets and upholstery are almost always included in a deep cleaning checklist. This is because these two types of surfaces often accumulate dirt and dust that is difficult to get out without the help of special equipment.

Like any other type of cleaning, a deep clean for carpets will require appropriate floor care products and cleaning solutions to be used.

For deep cleaning of carpets, you will want to ensure that you have a vacuum capable of picking up loose and deeply embedded dirt. Extreme cleaning services will use a machine to remove tough stains and to clean solutions.

Wipe Walls

A critical task on your deep cleaning checklist should be wiping down your walls. Over time, dirt, dust, and fingerprints can accumulate on your walls, dulling their appearance. Wiping them down with a damp cloth helps to restore their shine.

Start by dusting the walls with a soft brush or vacuum attachment. Then, using mild soap and warm water, wipe down the walls with a sponge or cloth. Rinse the cloth or sponge regularly to avoid re-depositing dirt on the walls. Once you’ve finished cleaning, thoroughly dry the walls to prevent streaks from forming.

Unclogging Drains and Pipes

Drains and pipes can become clogged with hair, grease, soap scum, and other debris. As a result, they can start to smell bad and cause water to back up into sinks and showers. You will need a plunger and drain snake for deep cleaning.

First, use the plunger to try to dislodge the blockage. If that doesn’t work, feed the drain snake down the drain until you hit the obstruction. Then turn the handle to break up the clog.

Once you have removed the blockage, flush the fixture with hot water to remove any residual dirt and grime. By unclogging your drains and pipes, you can ensure that your home is clean and fresh smelling all year.

Clean the Garbage Disposal

Keeping your garbage disposal tidy is essential for hygiene and maintaining the sharpness of the blades. Fortunately, it’s simple to do with some simple household supplies. First, start by running cold water down the disposal for 30 seconds to flush any food residue.

Then, you can sprinkle an adequate amount of baking soda down the drain and let it sit for 5 minutes. The next step is pouring 1 cup of white vinegar into the drain and letting it fizz for another 5 minutes. Finally, turn on the disposal and run cold water for another minute to rinse everything away.

Clean Mirrors and Glass Surfaces

Mirrors and glass surfaces can be some of the most challenging areas to clean. Not only do they require special care to avoid scratches, but they also tend to collect fingerprints and smudges.

To clean your mirrors and glass, be sure to use a soft, lint-free cloth when cleaning. This will help to avoid scratches. Second, use a mild soap or glass cleaner on your mirror or glass surface. Be sure to wipe in a circular motion and rinse well. Lastly, buff the surface with a clean, dry sponge or cloth to remove any streaks.

Vacuum and Mop All Floors

A tidy floor is the foundation of a clean home. Vacuuming and mopping are two essential tasks for keeping your floors clean. Vacuuming helps to remove dust, dirt, and other debris that can build up over time.

Mopping takes things a step further by disinfecting your floors and leaving them with a streak-free shine. When deep cleaning your home, pay special attention to areas that tend to collect dust, like baseboards and under furniture.

Deep Scrub Shower and Tub

When it comes to the bathroom, one of the most important things to focus on is the shower and tub. Start by removing all soap scum and build-up with a heavy-duty cleaner.

For stubborn spots, you may need to let the cleaner sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. Be sure to pay special focus to the tile grout, as this is often one of the dirtiest areas in the bathroom. Once you’ve given the shower and tub a good scrub, rinse everything well and dry with a clean towel.

Scrub and Disinfect Sinks

Scrub and disinfect sinks regularly to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. Begin by scrubbing the sink with a sponge or brush, using hot soapy water.

Then, use a disinfectant cleaner to disinfect the sink, paying special attention to the drain area. Let the cleaner sit on the sink’s surface for some minutes before wiping it away with a clean cloth. Then rinse the sink with clean water and dry it with a clean towel.

A deep clean can help eliminate unwanted pests like bugs and rodents. If you consider putting your home on the market, a deep clean can also help to increase its value. Potential buyers are always searching for move-in-ready homes, and a deep clean can help make your home more appealing.
