The use of air conditioners has become indispensable and increasingly common in our homes, particularly in hot, humid climates and polluted cities. When the weather becomes unbearably hot, we often rely on cooling systems. It makes us sleep or shop comfortably, and at the same time, air conditioning helps us work productively (read more ).

However, AC problems mostly happen during the most inconvenient time: the summer season. During a balmy day, every A/C works beyond its limits, resulting in frequent breakdowns and problems. Of course, that is the last thing we would want.

Having a functional and efficient cooling system is essential to our comfort and our health. While a typical duty of an AC is to provide good ventilation, a poorly maintained and faulty system can give you otherwise. That is why it is crucial to get a maintenance service or repair if your A/C is not performing at its peak. Here, we have listed down some AC problems you might encounter before they become extensive and costly for repairs.

1. Does Not Blow Cool Air

When you turn on your cooling systems, you expect cool air to blow out of the system. Suppose your AC does not blow cool air but rather warmer and diminished airflow. In that case, these are both indicators of AC malfunction.

Contact a professional to have your cooling systems inspected for leaks and other issues if you notice warmer air. Typically, at least two problems can cause the exhaust to warm up. One issue is the compressor.

If it is running low on the refrigerant chemical responsible for cooling the air, it might not be efficient enough to give you a more relaxed environment. Also, another possible cause can be a result of leaks and refrigerant failure.

2. Foul, Strange Odors

One possible indicator that your AC requires a repair is when foul, strange odors come out from your cooling systems. It might not sound as big, but it can be the most alarming one. It could smell like anything from a wet sock-like odor to a burnt smell, which can be unpleasant! This issue should be addressed as often because a foul stench might force you to turn your AC off.

By far, the most common smell experienced from ACs is the musty smell. It happens when the water in the drip pan accumulates for a more extended period. As a result, mold, mildew, and fungus might grow. At the same time, if you have not properly maintained your AC, moisture can accumulate, particularly by cleaning the filters, which can produce stale and dingy smells.

It is critical to hire a professional to thoroughly clean your filters and the entire air conditioning system. Also, you can get an AC repair in Pasadena service to prevent minor issues from getting big. It can be any faulty electrical components that can potentially harm you if left unaddressed.

 3. Poor Air Quality

Based on research, turning your AC on has been one of the effective ways for good air quality. However, cooling systems can become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi if it is not adequately maintained. More than foul odor, a badly maintained AC can make you sick by producing lousy air quality, which is not what it is supposed to blow. In awful cases, this can result in black mold due to moisture accumulation in the coils and ducts.

In a recent warning, the Environmental Protection Agency stated that we might be exposed to more pollutants inside our homes than we are outside. It is essentially true when the AC circulates old, stagnant air rather than bringing fresh, better-quality airflow. As a result, when these pathogens become airborne, they can cause a wide range of breathing problems.

Most likely, living in old and moldy air conditioning may make you susceptible to respiratory infections. Typically, the most common symptoms include irritation, wheezing, congestion, headache, and a sense of weariness.

4. Higher Energy Bills

Because an inefficient A/C works harder than a regular one, resulting in higher utility bills than usual. With poor airflow, it will take too much time for your air conditioner to effectively cool the room. Hence, the harder it works, the more electricity it consumes. Instead of paying for more, have it inspected to repair the cause why it is not performing its best function.
