There are days when motivation is hard to come by. Those who keep grinding from nine to five will quickly lose it. Moreover, trying to squeeze out any eventually could drive them to burn out even faster.

While taking a break is a great way to get back on track, it’s not always possible. After all, various factors are involved before taking that step, like the budget you’ll allot for. Because of this, it might be better to consider other alternatives. Sprucing up your office area to give it more ‘energy’ could improve your mindfulness and focus on work.

Here are some ways to make that happen:

1. Add Plants

Plants are excellent additions to a generic, corporate setting. While your working environment only has lifeless office equipment occupying every corner, using real plants as decorations could breathe life into the place. And it doesn’t hurt that they come in all colors, from muted to vibrant. Thus, it’s safe to say that there’s no shortage of options.

But considering you’re at work, avoid choosing too overwhelming plants. Although visually appealing, large, bushy plants tend to be distracting. Additionally, they add more tasks for cleaning services when their leaves fall throughout the year. Stick with small enough plants to give the office a splash of color without becoming too bothersome. Succulents are great plants, but you can find more here.

Another reason you might consider adding plants is that they’re some of the best natural air filters. Although not as obvious as smoke, various toxic chemicals are in the office air. From strong cleaning solutions to allergens, anything can affect one’s health. Consequentially, employee productivity will be hit. Adding plants may not be the ultimate solution, but having them in the office contributes to cleaner air.

2. Light It Up

It’s impossible to appreciate art decorations and other aesthetics with poor lighting. Additionally, working under flickering lights or dim lighting lowers your motivation. And it’s worth mentioning how much it strains your eyesight. Thus, the longer you work in these conditions, the more they affect your health.

Although common, installing light bulbs, like fluorescent lights, does more harm than good. Because even though they fully illuminate the workplace, they’re notorious for causing headaches and eye fatigue under prolonged exposure. After all, some artificial light emits ultraviolet (UV) light related to radiation.

Instead of settling for artificial lighting, consider using natural light. Install windows to ‘open up’ the office space. That way, sunlight can pass through. And for those who don’t know, sunlight contains vitamins that could improve your health. Positioning your work area where natural light lands allow you to passively recharge your mind and body.

3. Consider Hygiene

Offices have countless people coming and going. And you can already imagine how much activity there will be once the busy season starts. Because so many people are bustling around, this has become an ideal breeding ground for germs and bacteria. It’s only a matter of time before viral diseases spread around, leading to a huge drop in productivity.

Consider adding disinfection or sanitary stations to the office space. Look up chemical-free sanitizers. After all, some might be allergic to the chemicals found in certain sanitizers—or worse; they might be so toxic that they could harm the user. Natural alternatives use ingredients that may be free from chemicals but are still as effective.

4. Provide Nourishment

Taking breaks is essential if you want to stay productive. After all, pushing yourself to continue working while tired, hungry, or thirsty hardly makes any difference. If anything, you’re only driving yourself rapidly toward burnout. Since you need all the energy you can get, almost anything might seem appetizing, even junk food, like chips or soda.

While filling, settling for junk food day in and day out eventually ruins your health. Instead, supply your office with snack stations stocked with healthy food. For example, fruits are rich in natural sugars, which help boost energy and improve mood.

5. Keep Things Neat

Concentrating on your work is difficult when your workspace is brimming with too many things, from previous work to plain trash. Besides that, maneuvering around many obstacles hinders a smooth workflow and reduces productivity. Declutter your office space by throwing away things that aren’t useful for anything else. For those reluctant to part with it, organize everything by labeling and sorting through it. That way, you’ll have an easier time finding what you need.

Takeaway

Energizing your office space is the best way to improve work productivity. Fortunately, there’s no need to renovate anything when the simplest additions could impact the place’s atmosphere. Even changing the lighting can make a huge difference. With different strategies to energize the office, finding which one could help is much easier.
