A sewerage system, also known as a wastewater collection system, refers to a network of pipelines and pumping stations laid all across an area for transportation of sewage and other waste generated in the households of the inhabitants of that area.

The sewer system is similar to other utilities provided by the local authorities, including water and electricity services.

While many households still rely on septic tanks for the collection and dumping of their household wastes and wastewater, the sewer system is quickly replacing the septic tank system.

Advantages of Using the Sewage System

It has various advantages over the septic tanks system, some of which are as follows:

  • The households have to pay a monthly charge for the sewer services provided by the authorities.
  • The hassle of maintenance of sewer lines lies with the local authorities, and the household has nothing to worry about.
  • The local authorities would be liable for any repair or problem in the sewer system as the household is already making fee payments for the services.
  • The sewer system pipelines are made much more significant as it has to accommodate wastewater of many households, and as such, it has fewer chances of clogging.
  • The environmental harm is also minimized as the governments also set sewage treatment plants for purifying and cleansing the wastewater to ensure the waste does not pollute the environment.

Installing Sewer Line on Your Own

Probably, the question which might be coming to your mind is ‘can I install my own sewer line?’ the answer is yes.

There is no restriction in doing so, and everybody is allowed to install sewer lines on their own or through a plumbing expert. The process of installing a sewer line is mentioned below:

  • At the start, one needs to inquire about the availability of a sewer line in one’s area and make required arrangements to connect it to the household.
  • While the plumbing experts have adequate knowledge of the local codes regulations, installing sewer on one’s own, one needs to be aware of such codes and ensure not to violate any such regulation.
  • The next step would be to ensure a safe route of installing the sewer line by calling a local utility company to check for any hazard underground and, thus, map the sewer route.
  • The elevation and depth of pipes and determining how much the pipe needs to run have to be done before proceeding further.
  • After that, the sewer line trench needs to be dug for laying down the pipes in such trenches.
  • The last step would be to lay and install the pipes in such trenches and connect one end to the wastewater disposal pipe of the household and the other to the sewer line.
  • After installing the trenches, the trenches are refilled with the sand dugout.

Whoa! now you have successfully installed the sewer line on your own.

You can use the steps mentioned above on your own to set up and install your sewer line.

Although the process would involve a lot of hard work of digging, filling, etc., post the work, you would successfully ensure a viable and long-lasting solution for waste disposal.
