Window blinds are a popular choice among Orlando homeowners; they help keep temperatures in control in summer or winter, manage home privacy, and look beautiful. But on top of all these amazing features, one thing is true, they attract dirt and dust.

Whether you’ve chosen wood blinds, vinyl blinds, solar shades, mini blinds, vertical or horizontal slats, maintaining them can be a task. But we are here with easy and quick cleaning to eliminate dirt and dust from the window blinds.

A piece of advice: Before you start, don’t forget to read on the manufacturers’ instructions on cleaning and maintaining the window treatments.

Spot tests are an easy way of cleaning a small area and not the whole blind. Always start cleaning from top to bottom or you end up dirtying areas already cleaned.

Cleaning Plastic Blinds

Usually made of vinyl or PVC they’re a popular choice for low on budget people. However, being affordable doesn’t mean that they’re zero maintenance.

They require periodic maintenance and you can easily do that with a microfiber cloth or a solution of dish soap and warm water.

Keep the blinds in an open position and start by cleaning off the dust with a microfiber cloth. Make a solution of dish soap with warm water.

Start wiping each slat and remove any excess water. Let the blinds air dry before closing them.

Cleaning Wooden Blinds

Window blinds are a classic window treatment that keeps the prying eyes of your neighbor at bay and also gives you respite from glare. Even though manufacturers promise that wood is treated, fixing wooden blinds in high moisture areas is not a good idea.

You can’t even use harsh chemicals as it may cause cracking or chipping off the polish. The process more or less remains the same wiping off the excess dust and dirt gently with a microfiber cloth.

Take a vacuum cleaner and brush off the dirt. To prevent or minimize dust, you apply wood polish after cleaning.

Cleaning Mini and Metal Blinds

Metal or mini blinds are mostly made from aluminum. They are far more durable than plastic or wood on exposure to sunlight, moisture, or extreme temperature.

A clean dry microfiber cloth will remove any dirt or dust and then gently apply the warm soapy solution and wipe off the excess water.

The blinds can be greasy when they are placed in the kitchen. To remove the greasy stains, soak the blinds in the warm soapy water for an hour.

The dirt would come off, rinse with clean water, and then wipe off the dirt using a clean cloth. Once you’re done with cleaning, do not forget to clean the strings.

Just like blinds, they do attract dust and can easily fade under the sun. you can clean them with the same soap solution you prepared for cleaning the blinds. Grip the string with a clean cloth and then start cleaning from top to bottom.

Blinds are undoubtedly one of the most popular and affordable window treatments available in the market. However, they do need cleaning –fortnightly or once in a month.
