If you are thinking of installing a water filter in your home, you may not be sure where to start.

With so much information about different filters and different types of systems that you can have in your home, it can be overwhelming.

One of the first things you need to do is figure out how good the quality of your water is, once you have done that, you can then begin to look at filters and filter options which best suit your needs.

7 Things to Look for In Your Advanced Water Filter

When it comes to checking off important points and filter characteristics, here are 7 things to look for in your advanced water filter.

Contaminants

When it comes to looking for filters, you don’t want one that will only filter out one contaminant.

Not only does this leave you and your family open to the risk of other contaminants, but it also means that the filter isn’t the best quality.

The bigger the range of contaminants the filter can collect, the better constructed it will be.

Smaller contaminants such as lead, need a very small filter to catch them. So, make sure that the filter you are choosing can do more than one thing.

Placement

With so many filter types on the market, you may be overwhelmed with where to place it.

Depending on the advanced system you are choosing, three of the best options are countertop water filters, under the counter water filters, and full house systems.

With these three systems, you can be sure that your family will always have access to clean and filtered drinking water.

They are also more effective than filter jugs as their filtration system is far more advanced and will remove more contaminants.

These types of filters are known as the point of use filters. Whole house systems are ideal for those who live in an area where it is dangerous to drink or use the water, due to contaminants such as lead.

Whole house systems aren’t a viable option for everyone due to the cost and counter systems can work just as well.

Changing Filters

If you have a large filter system, you want to make sure that all filters need to be cleaned at the same time.

This is especially true in a reverse osmosis system. These systems are big and costly and have a range of filters in them.

Some manufactures don’t consider that changing all the filters at the same time is far easier than remembering when to change some at different intervals.

If you are considering purchasing a big filter system, make sure that all filters are changed at the same interval to make your life far easier and keep the system running. See more at Wellwaterexpert.com

Cleaning

There are some filter systems that allow you to clean the filters.

If you live in an area where the water has bacterial or lead contamination, you want to avoid these types of systems.

Cleaning of the filters should only be done in areas where you are trying to remove chalk and soften the water.

If you try and clean the filter system, you run the risk of increasing the contaminants within it and moving them to a place where they are no longer held safely.

If you live in an area with bacteria or lead, only buy advanced systems that can be replaced.

Ease of Changing

If the filters require frequent changes, you want to make sure this is easily done, especially if you have a whole-house system or point of entry.

You don’t want to be left too long without water, so making sure filters are easy to switch is a must.

If your system requires a lot of tools or a complicated method of accessing it, then this won’t be ideal for you.

Likewise, if you have to get someone out to change the filter regularly, this can be time consuming and expensive.

Make sure that you chose a system that is easy to maintain and look after, as this will increase the lifespan of it.

You also need to consider the accessibility of engineers.

If you do select a system that someone else has to come out and change the filter on, make sure it is a brand that people in your local area know, this way you won’t be calling someone to come and visit your filter system from the other side of the country.

Maintenance

If you are considering a whole house system you want to make sure you select one that has reasonable service intervals.

Like a car, whole-house systems will require regular upkeep to ensure that they are running smoothly, this is especially true with reverse osmosis systems.

Select a filter system that requires maintenance at a minimum of once annually and make sure you are buying one that local tradesman service.

You don’t want to choose a brand that no one is sure how to service, maintain, and in worst-case scenario come and fix if there is a breakdown.

Final Thoughts

There are so many different types of water filter systems available on the market that it can be easy to become bogged down in the finer details.

When it comes to selecting an advanced water system , you want to make sure that you are choosing one that is right for your home and your family.

The first stage of you selecting what type of filter you need is finding out what type of water you have.

This will dictate what type of filter is best for your current circumstance and can also save you a lot of money if you don’t require one that specializes in particular contaminants.

Form there you want to make sure you can have someone come out and fix it if something were to go wrong.

You don’t want to invest in a filer system that no one can repair in your local area, which is why it is worth buying from a local provider as they will have the skills required.
