The urge to break free from the dependence on conventional energy sources for street lighting to create more environment-friendly and cost alternative has triggered the popularity of solar street lights across the world.

Solar power is quickly replacing conventional energy driven devices and has become a popular choice for home and street lighting systems. As the clamor for the conservation of energy and using green energy is growing, the public lighting system for streets and roads is increasingly using solar lights.

There has been a remarkable decrease in a load of national grids, a major part of which used to cater to public lighting facilities including lights on the streets.

New Looks

The solar lights on the streets are much sleek looking and compact consisting of PV panels, LED lights with smart sensors, and in-built battery all boxed into a single unit. Although the cost of these lights is initially higher than traditional lights, its installation that does not depend on the creation of any infrastructure is so low that it offsets the high cost considerably.

Moreover, the long life of LED lights and minimal maintenance requirements add to the overall cost benefits. The new kind of street lights can work off-grid. The good looks together with the cost benefits and long life make solar lighting systems ideal for commercial as well as domestic use.

Low Operational Cost

High power bills have always been a concern for maintaining public utilities including public lighting systems for streets and other public places. Since sunlight is freely available, charging solar panels is quite inexpensive which reduces the overall operational costs of solar lights dramatically. Solar power is a leading player in renewable energy that is among the cheapest form of energy available.

Using solar power to generate electricity is so cheap that at places that receive plenty of sunlight, solar power is emphatically replacing traditional energy sources. The cost of solar and wind energy is going down sharply, and it is much cheaper than coal.

Fighting Climate Change

As you cannot turn away from reality and be foolish to bury your head in the sand, so also you cannot afford to ignore climate change. We have already done a lot of harm to the environment in pursuing our chosen lifestyles, and now it is time to make amends. This is evident from the growing popularity of solar power in various spheres especially street lighting.

It is time to throw away the non-renewable energy sources that had so long been the mainstay of our living and lifestyle and start depending on renewable energy sources like solar power that has become a major weapon to reverse the damage already done to the environment.

As solar power has become the fastest growing source of new-found or renewable energy, it is quite understandable why more and more street lighting systems are using it across the world. In 2016, renewable sources contributed to two-thirds of the new power that prompted governments and local bodies to take more interest in solar powered lights to light up the streets and other public places.
