A bundle of joy is coming! What an exciting time. There is so much preparation taking place, buying baby clothes, stocking up on diapers, baby bottles, and pacifiers.

Designing the nursery is part of this amazing journey and represents an opportunity to allow your creative juices to flow.

Unless you’re a seamstress, you don’t have much say in what clothing is out there. But with this little project, you can give all the input in the world.

This may be something you as a mom-to-be or dad-to-be might have thought about since learning of the pregnancy, and now is the time to cement the plans for this special space.

Splashes of Color

Ah, what color to choose? Nothing wrong with going the customary way of blue for boys and pink for girls if that’s where your heart is set.

Should you be more gender non-conforming, you would adopt an alternative stance. Bottom line, go with your preference.

You might be interested, however, in taking into consideration the science behind certain shades as researchers suggest that certain colors influence behavior, cause greater mental stimulation, and impacts overall wellbeing.

Warm colors like orange, red, and yellow all have their perks, but also their cons.

While red is thought to energize the body and literally get the blood pumping, it can easily flow into aggression and the inability to focus.

Orange is seen as friendly and social but can become over-stimulating if bold shades are prominent.

Yellow flows into happiness and motivation, however, can take a turn into frustration.

Yikes, who knew picking a color went so deep. Similar breakdowns are presented for cooler shades.

There is no clear winner. The ultimate focus, though, should be on growing a happy baby, all else should fall into line.

Furniture Choices

The nursery is a room that requires very little furniture. As it were, you only truly need furniture for sleeping, storing clothes, and somewhere to sit.

It’s practical to keep this room free of clutter to facilitate ease of movement, especially at night when you’re groggily going into the room in answer to a cry or for a scheduled feed.

Select the perfect crib. Both stationary and swinging versions are available in dark and light colors, sure to fit into the color theme of the room.

SnüzPods are great to fit right beside your bed in the event a nursery is not possible.

The snüzPod 4 is outfitted with temperature regulation features, boasts breathable mattresses and zip-down linings for easy feeding.

You can access this here and can also browse the cot selections. While the SnüzPods are for newborns up to six months, a classic crib can be adjusted for your growing baby.

The height of the structure will spare you many backaches as it saves from excessive bending over when picking up the infant. This can be bundled with a similarly fashioned wardrobe and changing unit.

Bring in a Bit of Nature

Consider the importance of having a plant in the nursery. Their benefits are astounding. A plant has been held as the natural immunity shot for babies.

Being placed in the same room, the plant protects against colds, clears congestion, and prevents the development of allergies.

You most likely have heard before that they also act as air purifiers. By increasing the humidity in the air, pollutants are reduced.

Even dangerous airborne contaminants from cigarettes and toxins like formaldehyde that seeps out from paints are removed.

It is a give-and-take relationship. We offer up carbon dioxide, they in return produce oxygen, facilitating our breathing and very life.

Not every tree or shrub is safe for a child. But following are some great baby-safe foliage you can confidently place in your nursery.

The parlor palm brings a certain tropical vibe and can easily adapt to bright and shaded areas.

The spider plant with its white trimmed leaves is one of the best natural air purifiers, especially as related to formaldehyde.

It can be hung or easily set upon a desk or armoire. The maranta red prayer plant, baby rubber plant, and dracaena are other options that will make the room that much better for the little one.

Toy Selections

It is a well-known fact that playing is crucial to the development of children. This is no different for babies.

Fisher price’s kick-and-play piano gym can be used from the newborn period to the toddler and preschool ages.

Babies love to kick and grab, and this toy provides both options for activation and engagement.

Once older, it can be used more purposefully for musical games and adventures. Baby books showcasing baby faces portraying different emotions introduce emotional health to infants.

But what if they grab at it, bite it, and drool over it, won’t that destroy it, you may think… the short answer is No! Being waterproof and in essence babyproof, the Indestructables is perfect for your child.

Shakers and rattles will never go out of fashion. Your baby can stay happily engaged by themselves, enjoying the sounds that emanate from the toy.

Soft and cuddly toys like teddy bears are a favorite. How much better if this comes attached to a soft and cuddly blanket? This is exactly what you get with the Hudson animal face security blanket. Choose among eighteen animal faces to include foxes, elephants, and unicorns.

Toy Selections

You may ask yourself if babies really need toys. They may like what you buy or completely disregard it to play instead with something random around the house.

The important thing is to ensure whatever they get their hands on is safe and clean. The interaction and bond that develop when you sing to your baby or read to them are unmatched.

So in essence, sometimes less is more. While there is proven science to colors, go with your instinct.

A loved baby will be a happy baby in whatever colored room. Choose furniture wisely and, please, incorporate a plant or two into your design. What’s greater than giving your little one the gift of good health? Nothing.
