Spotting a leaking radiator can seem like something that’s not too big of an issue at first. After all, what’s a bit of water going to do? In reality, a leaking radiator can pose a serious danger to your home, for a number of reasons. From mold to water damage, here’s why it’s a problem that you should definitely get fixed as soon as possible.

Mold

As you’ll likely have seen a few times in the news this past year, damp homes create the perfect environment for mold spores to grow.

Mold isn’t just an aesthetic concern – it can pose a serious health risk to people living in those spaces, potentially leading to serious breathing issues and other allergic reactions.

Getting rid of mold is a lot harder and more expensive than it is to stop it from growing in the first place, so if you spot a dripping radiator, it’s time to get a plumber from Able Plumbing around as soon as possible.

Water damage

In addition to mold growth, water leaks can result in a lot of other forms of water damage. Even a slow leak will eventually start to seep into the area around it, getting into the carpet, wood, and ceiling below if you’re not on the ground floor.

This can lead to visual damage, but more importantly, it can also start to affect the building structurally. Fixing this kind of water damage can end up costing an eye-watering amount, especially if you let things get too far.

They’re easy to fix

While a leaking radiator can cause a wide range of issues, it will often be a very quick issue for a plumber to fix. Whether it’s a faulty joint or a bent piece of piping, in most cases it shouldn’t take them long at all to sort the issue out.

Compared to the potential costs you’ll have to deal with to get rid of any further leak-related issues, you’ll be saving yourself a lot of time and money.

Electrical issues

In some cases, a water leak could start to interfere with your home’s electrical system. In addition to damaging outlets and wiring, it could potentially even result in an electrical fire. This is obviously not something that anyone wants, making it best to sort out your radiator leak issues sooner rather than later.

Damaging homes around yours

Many of us live in shared buildings, and if you have a leaking radiator in a flat with people living beneath you, it could potentially be causing them issues as well. It’s likely that you’ll be held financially responsible for any damage that you cause to your neighbor’s home, which could end up adding even more to the bill for getting things sorted out.

Radiator leaks are obviously not something to be taken lightly. They can result in both structural damage to your home, and a range of health risks to any occupants. It will generally be quite easy to get the leak fixed, and a lot cheaper than the other issues that the leak might lead to.
