4 Advantages of Key Card Locks: Is It Time to Replace Yours?

The good news in all this is that key card locks offer several distinct advantages. It’s difficult to think of key card systems as better than others. They have strengths that are their own.

The critical thing to remember is that business owners and managers keep their needs in mind when selecting the key card security system that is best for them. They can get help over at Action Lock Doc .

Four advantages of key card locks are below.

No Unauthorized Entry

Physical keys are hard to control once they are given out to users. They can also be stolen and used by unauthorized persons.

And, after a discovery is made, the only recourse is for an owner to change the lock, which is an expensive proposition that could involve multiple locks in an entire building or buildings.

With a key card lock, if an unauthorized person winds up with a key card, all that needs to be done is to change the code for one card, eliminating access.

Multiple Entries

Any business that has various locations probably has numerous locks to keep those sites secure. That compounds the problem of use when there are different locks.

Anyone who needs to access several buildings can end up with a collection of keys they must carry around.

With key card locks, this problem is eliminated, since access can be allowed or prohibited to anyone for any lock desired.

No Written Access

Have you ever been allowed access to a building or office that had a lock with an access code? To keep from forgetting it, what did you do? If you are like most people, you probably wrote it down.

Unfortunately, writing an access code down is just like giving it to an unauthorized person. This isn’t a problem for a business with a key card lock system.

With such a system, there is no need to write down a code. You either have a card or you don’t.

And, even if you do have a card, once access is denied, such as when a person is terminated, all that needs to be done is to cancel the granted access. There isn’t even a need to have the card returned.

Access Logging

Any business that has keys that allow access has no way of knowing who was in their building and who wasn’t.

With a key card lock, anyone who was granted access automatically generates a log of their entry to premises.

With these logs, a business owner can quickly tell who gained access to their building, how many times, and for how long.

This can give an owner or manager an audit trail that makes it much easier to trace anyone’s presence if there is ever theft of property or data.

Just as is the case for any key or card, key cards wear out, become damaged, or are lost. This isn’t a problem with a key card system. All an owner or manager has to do is deactivate an old card and activate a new one. Problem solved.
