Unexpected damages around the house can happen at any moment.

These instances can surprise you even when you follow a strict home maintenance schedule. The good thing is that there are several things that you can do to help you rectify these problems quickly.

3 Common Home Damages and How to Quickly Fix Them

Here are three common home damages and the solutions to fix them quickly:

Poor Drainage

Poor drainage can lead to several other problems, like destroying appliances and damaging furniture.

This can come from different sources. For instance, your house can develop drainage issues because the builders didn’t divert the downspouts away from the house.

If your downspouts are the leading cause of this issue, then you need to change their directions to make sure they lead water away from your house.

Also, make sure to recirculate the downspouts to areas in your yard where moisture and water can do the least amount of damage.

However, it might be challenging to select the right tools for this particular job. One excellent place to find the perfect equipment for your specific need is in Home Fix Hobby.

Clogged Toilet

Many homeowners despise doing their “business” in the toilet, especially when clogging becomes a very frequent problem.

However, calling a plumber might not be the best solution at the moment, especially if you’re following a strict budget.

Instead, you can use a quick Do-it-Yourself (DIY) solution to repair this predicament. All you need are two items to unclog your toilet: a toilet auger and a plunger.

Different toilet augers and plungers exist on the market. Make sure to choose the best ones if you want a high chance of removing the obstruction from your toilet. You can check for the items that you may need for this fix on homefixhobby.com.

After you acquire the necessary items, check to see if the toilet has enough water in it. If it only has a small amount of water, add more water in the receptacle to ensure that the plunger’s head submerges.

Now, give the plunger about eight to ten downward thrusts. Several minor toilet clogs can clear up after those plunges. Use the auger if the obstruction didn’t go away.

Run the end of the device in the toilet until it reaches the cause of the hindrance. Turn the crank until you can get a good grip. Then, remove the auger afterward to pull the clog out.

Roof Damage

Roof Damage

A damaged roof can lead to many other problems, including water leaking from the ceiling when it rains. But, you can repair your roof as soon as you notice signs of damage or destruction on it.

Start by cleaning the debris left behind by cracks and other causes of damages. Then, reframe the roof and lay down a base or sheathing. Thick plywood with suitable dimensions should suffice as a sheathing material.

Next, measure the area where you’re going to lay down the shingles before cutting the plywood to the appropriate size. Then, lay the sheathing in a staggered brick pattern for additional strength.

It’s in your best interest not to place a large section of plywood on your roof. Otherwise, the wood can become unstable and lead to further damages.

Once you complete the installation of the new sheathing material, it’s time to lay the felt paper. Staple a 6-inch start strip at the bottom of the roof. Ensure that you leave an inch of overhang to leave an allowance for the gutters.

Now, it’s time to install the shingles. Start laying the shingles from the bottom corner of the roof. Then, follow the chalk lines on the felt as you move upward to form a pyramid shape. Continue working your way up the roof to ensure a uniform and seamless look.

Roof damage, poor drainage, and clogged toilets are only three of the many common home issues you may encounter.

If you can’t solve these concerns using DIY solutions, it might be best to hire the right professional for these jobs. Otherwise, you can attempt to rectify these situations using DIY techniques but make sure you have suitable equipment and knowledge to finish the tasks correctly.
