Say, “Goodbye” to standard wrapping fare and exercise your creative muscles with out-of-the-box gift wrapping ideas that will delight recipients.

Finding the perfect present for the special people in your life is only the first step in creating a holiday to remember. Think outside of the box (and wrapping paper) when it comes time to package up your gifts.

Creative and beautiful alternative wrappings give your gifts a unique, personalized touch that warms the hearts of recipients before they even get to the goods.

Personalized Papers

Skip the name tags and identify the gift recipient right on the wrapping paper. Pick up a roll of brown or white butcher paper from an art supply store to give you a blank slate.

Use alphabet letter stamps to decorate the paper with the recipient’s name. Incorporate a range of ink colors or different sized letters to create an unexpectedly modern design.

Repurposed Paper

Don’t limit yourself to traditional wrapping paper. Any paper that’s large enough and willing to fold can serve as wrapping paper.

Pages from old textbooks, trail maps, and even old instruction manuals are not only eco-friendly options for wrapping, but they are a surefire way to make sure your gift stands out under the Christmas tree.

Gift Wrappings

Instead of wrapping presents up in the paper that heads right to the trash, choose a gift that works double duty as wrapping material.

A fleece blanket or knit scarf is a versatile and welcome present that also works as wrapping for a secondary gift. Just remember to skip the tape and stick to the ribbon to keep it all held together.

Creative Kitchens

Your kitchen pantry is a valuable source of wrapping and packaging materials. Reuse an empty oats container for a pair of slippers or mittens. Add some shine to your packages with reflective aluminum foil.

Get rid of old paper bags by repurposing them as simple gift wrapping. Instead of finishing the package with a traditional bow, tie on a piece of bow-shaped farfalle pasta.

Go Interactive

Make unwrapping presents a game with interactive papers. Save the crossword page from the Sunday paper, or collect several pages from a sodoku or word search book. Instead of tearing into the gifts, tell the recipient she must earn the gift by playing a part of the game on the wrapping paper.

Add an Accent

If ribbons and bows are too simple for your tastes, get creative with packing accents for a festive touch. Swap out simple bows for tissue paper flowers or pompoms. Use ribbon to secure a pair of jingling bells or a Christmas tree ornament to the package.

Include a bit of nature in your wrapping with pinecones or sprigs of evergreen that drive home the spirit of the holidays.
