How to Avoid Overcrowding Your Living Room

With such an important role, you want the space to feel warm and inviting. Unfortunately, it’s easy to overcrowd the area, especially if you have a large family.

In this article, we are going to discuss some tips to help you avoid overcrowding the living room so that you can enjoy spending time together.

Sound interesting? Then let’s get started!

Choose Appropriate Furniture

Furniture plays the biggest part in any room, so be sure that you are choosing pieces that aren’t too large for the space. The aim is to create an open and inviting layout that doesn’t feel clustered.

To reduce the number of pieces in one room, opt for those with additional benefits. For instance, instead of having multiple chairs and a couch, you might consider one of these recliners  that still provide additional comfort.

Declutter As Much as Possible

One of the main reasons for a crowded living room is clutter. By removing unwanted and unnecessary items, it will instantly create more space and be easier to clean.

Start by sorting through your belongings and either donate or throw things that are no longer required. From here, you should install storage solutions that hide the rest of your visual clutter.

Again, this is where your furniture can come in handy. A lot of coffee table designs have hidden storage which is perfect for additional blankets, board games, and even your television remotes.

Create A Focal Point

While you may think a focal point will take up additional space, it’s actually quite the opposite. It can draw attention from any areas that feel cluttered or overwhelming.

On top of this, having one piece to focus on is better than a bunch of different small objects. It could be as simple as a unique piece of artwork or something more structural like your fireplace.

Use Lighting Effectively

Appropriate lighting is another easy way to make a space feel more open. However, that doesn’t mean you should throw as many lamps in as you can fit.

Start by using a combination of natural and ambient lighting to create a well-lit space. Hanging a mirror will also reflect this light to make the room feel even bigger.

Create A Lighter Color Palette

While dark colors can feel calming, a lighter color palette tends to be better for small environments. Pastels, greys, whites, and creams will create an illusion of space within your living room.

If you can’t afford to paint the entire room, try changing up your curtains, photo frames, blankets, and pillows. It really can make a big difference.

Final Words

While it may seem rather difficult, there are many different ways to avoid overcrowding your living room. By following the advice above, you can create a pleasant and functional area that your family and friends will love.
