When it comes to keeping your home’s boiler in top running condition at all times, there really is no substitute for regular boiler maintenance.

By ensuring that you complete a series of key maintenance tasks on a regular basis, you will go a long way toward preventing potentially costly malfunctions and repair bills.

In addition, maintenance helps make sure the boiler is running at full efficiency, something which will reduce your heating bills.

The following tips from the Glasgow Gas Engineer will provide the background information necessary to get started.

Check Vents and Eliminate Blockages

It is relatively common for air vents to suffer from blockages of one type or another, and they can greatly hinder the boiler’s efficiency.

In order to prevent this from occurring, it is best to conduct an inspection of the vents in the autumn so that there are no accumulations of dirt or other debris.

If a blockage is present, it just needs to be cleared away to return to proper airflow.

Verify Water Level

It is important that the boiler’s water level never be allowed to go under the minimum amount. If a boiler lacks sufficient water, the resulting damage can be impossible to repair.

In addition, such a situation can be dangerous to both your home and those living in it.

Add Component Lubrication

There are lots of moving parts inside any boiler, and they must remain properly lubricated in order to work correctly.

Add lubrication to the boiler’s components in the autumn so that operation is smooth for the entire winter season.

The pumps and the fans are areas that are especially in need of lubrication, so they need extra attention.

De-Scale Mineral Accumulation

When water makes its way through a boiler, it tends to leave mineral deposits in its wake. For localities in which hard water is prevalent, this can be particularly troublesome.

In order to avoid potentially harmful mineral build-up, use a de-scaling product as needed.

Eliminate Excess Dust

If the room in which the boiler sits is extremely dusty, particles can bet into the system itself via its fan. Make sure there is no debris or dust floating around in the boiler room to keep things working well.

Flushing the System

A great way to make sure that a boiler’s components remain as clean as possible is to flush the system a couple of times annually. This can help eliminate grit, lime-scale, and other contaminants that would otherwise collect.

Fully Inspect the System

A yearly inspection is essential to boiler efficiency and safety. Affordable Plumbing and Heat has been in the business of providing such assistance for more than two decades, and the team is proud to serve the Denver and Colorado Springs communities.

We take a close look at everything from the tanks, pipes, valves, and more. Such an inspection really is the best way to ensure that any boiler is working as well as possible and to prevent the emergence of issues that are not only expensive but inconvenient to fix.

Taking Preventative Action

Every savvy homeowner understands the importance of preventative maintenance of major mechanical systems.

Once a problem is serious enough to be noticed, it is often to the point where expensive repair work is needed. As such, annual inspections remain essential.

Our team’s inspection process includes the completion of a detailed checklist that helps us spot potential concerns, and if an issue is detected, there is a good chance we can perform a minor fix instead of the major one that would be necessary if no maintenance or preventative care had been taken.

Proactive Boiler Care

In order for your boiler to be at its best, an annual inspection by professional technicians makes all the difference. You will be able to rest assured that your system is working safely and efficiently.

Should a serious issue be identified, we stand ready to perform all needed repairs or embark on a full boiler replacement should that be required.
