A majority of people think that replacing or buying a new kitchen sink is a simple task that requires no additional attention.

But the fact is that one needs to consider the style, size, and most importantly, the material of the sink to ensure buying a tough, durable, and better-suited sink for their kitchen.

Five Different Types of Sink Materials That You Should Consider

Since there’s a huge assortment of sink materials available in the market, this makes the buying decision even more daunting. Most people pay a deaf ear to the sink materials and buy without considering any factors.

But, sink material can largely impact the way an individual interacts with it. Different types of sink materials will require different types of attention and maintenance.

Since most people in today’s world are already caught up with other activities in their day-to-day lives, it will become quite a hassle to constantly clean the sink after every use.

Also, the material determines the quality and look of the sink. After all, it should match with the interior of the house.

So, people should be aware of the various types of sink materials before they start buying their sink. Let’s take a look at the following:

1. Stainless Steel

30-inch stainless steel sink  is the most popular and common type of sink material that provides a contemporary and sleek look when paired with stone, granite, and wood countertops.

The reason why this stainless steel is the most preferred choice of sink materials in the market is that these are inexpensive. There are several types of sink mounting that one can consider for its installation.

But people should be a little careful when buying these stainless sinks as it can be of substandard quality if the manufacturer doesn’t provide enough attention while making it.

This is why people should opt for reliable manufacturers like Houzer Inc. These steels are classified into two types of the gauge.

When the gauge is lower, the steel becomes heavier, whereas the higher gauge makes the steel lighter. The heavier gauge sink is a more durable choice as it’s resistant to denting.

2. Copper

Since the kitchen sink is the focal point of the entire kitchen, a copper sink can be a great choice for sink materials.

People can choose a farmhouse style or a drop-in model with a warm and bright colored copper sink to enhance the look of their kitchen. Copper is also a healthier choice for the sink as it has the natural ability to kill the bacteria.

Therefore, it’s one of the best sink materials for the kitchen as it restrains germs and bacteria from making the sink their breeding ground. The quality copper model can be quite expensive as it contains 99% copper, and the price steeps up depending upon the size, brand, and style.

However, there are reliable and reputable manufacturers that offer premium quality copper sinks under reasonable sheds. But, don’t fall for the trap of cheap materials when it comes to the kitchen sink as it can be damaged quite easily.

3. Fireclay

Fireclay sinks are made from ceramic clay which is molded into the sink’s shape. Then it’s heated to a high temperature for up to 40 hours to dry the clay.

Once it’s dried, manufacturers apply porcelain enamel on it and place it into a tunnel kiln at extremely high temperatures for at least 20 hours. The process fuses the enamel to the ceramic clay, which increases the strength of the material.

The material is indestructible, but it can be prone to crack if it’s not installed efficiently. One needs to consider hiring an expert for the installation to increase its durability.

4. Granite Composite Kitchen Sinks

The composite granite kitchen sinks are made of crushed granite and resin filler. Sometimes, quartz is used instead of granite. The mixture mainly varies depending upon the manufacturer and the product itself.

But generally, it contains a ratio of 80:20 where the granite stone is 80%, and the resin is 20%. When granite composite sinks are installed in kitchens, it creates an aesthetic appeal in the kitchen. But it requires great maintenance to maintain its durability.

Generally, granite is more durable than quartz. One needs to check the materials used in making these sinks before buying them.

5. Porcelain Enamel Steel Sink

The porcelain enamel steel sink is made by using cast iron using a glass-based glaze that can be found in a variety of colors. The enamel provides a quieter and softer look which helps to increase the value of the home when it’s maintained well.

But these sinks are more prone to chipping and staining in the long run so one should be careful while maintaining it.

These were the variety of sink materials that one should consider before buying their kitchen sink.
