The Water in Your Maytag Washing Machine is not Draining? Here’s the Reason

You’re wondering, “Why isn’t my Maytag washing machine draining? Water may be accumulating in the washer due to a kink or obstruction in the drain hose. Learn more about why your washing machine won’t drain, from a human error to component failure, and how to fix the problem.

Note: do you need more information about a Maytag washer that won’t drain? Look at this list of Maytag washer troubleshooting codes.

Fixing a Maytag Washer That Isn’t Draining

How do you fix a washing machine that won’t drain? Sometimes it is enough to make small changes to the loading technique or cycle selection.

In other cases, a professional repair is required. We will tell you how to identify the problem in a Maytag washing machine that does not drain and how to fix it.

A Kinked or Clogged Drain Hose

Used water can flow out of the washing machine drum thanks to the drain hose that connects the washing machine to the drain pipe.

If the hose is kinked or clogged with lint or other debris, the water cannot bypass the obstruction, and the washer will not drain. This often leads to leaks or puddles in the washing machine drum.

Disconnect the hose clamp on the washer, then carefully straighten the hose to remove kinks. The hose should also be unclamped to check for obstructions inside. It may be necessary to unclamp the hose on the drain tube to remove the block if this cannot be done from one end. The hose must be replaced if it is damaged or if clogs cannot be cleared.

Washer is Overloaded

Even if the washer drains properly, are your clothes still wet after the wash cycle is complete? A tightly packed load can disrupt the balance of the machine, which can interfere with the spin cycle and result in damp clothes.

To improve balance, wash larger items individually or together with one or two smaller items. Study your owner’s manual to know the exact capacity of your washing machine to prevent overloading. Overloading problems can usually be avoided by simply filling the washing machine 3/4 full.

The Wrong Cycle was Chosen

Select the appropriate wash cycle if the washer-dryer does not spin all the water. To protect delicate materials, some settings, including “Delicate” or “Hand wash,” provide a reduced spin speed or no spin at all.

Choose a spin cycle with a higher spin speed to remove as much water as possible if the washer does not spin things dry. Be sure to check the labels on the items to make sure they can handle a harder spin.

Drain Pump or Drain Pump Filter that is Clogged

Lint and other foreign objects usually block the drain pumps, so most front-loading washing machines are equipped with a drain pump filter to avoid this. However, these objects can clog the filter, causing drained water to flow back into the washer.

The washer can drain properly, and clogging can be avoided with regular cleaning of the drain pump filter. The filter is often accessible behind the front panel on the bottom of the washer, and you simply unscrew it to clean it.

Sometimes the drain pump can become clogged when foreign particles or tiny pieces of clothing pass through a clogged filter. In this case, the washer will not drain properly. See your owner’s manual for instructions on how to get to the drain pump of a particular type of machine and check for obstructions. If there are no obvious obstructions, the drain pump may be defective and should be checked by a professional.

Before buying a washing machine, you expect it to last for many years. However, like all appliances, washing machines can sometimes break down or have problems. You’re wondering, “Why isn’t my Maytag washing machine draining? Water may be accumulating in the washer due to a kink or obstruction in the drain hose. Learn more about why your washing machine won’t drain, from a human error to component failure, and how to fix the problem.

Broke Lid Switch Assembly

A faulty lid switch assembly may be the cause of a Maytag top-loading washer not draining. Drain and spin in top-loading washing machines will not start until the lid is fully closed and the switch is engaged.

Try pressing the lid switch with your finger to check if the machine is spinning and draining. If nothing happens and a multimeter check reveals a continuity fault, the switch may need to be replaced.
