Though the general trend of business and home burglaries is declining, millions still get broken into every year. Various technologies could enhance your home security, from wireless alarms to hidden cameras.

Nonetheless, the simplest is the best invention ever: exterior door locks. This article will find different front door locks for your home security.

Cylinder Locks

Most available front door locks for your home have a cylinder lock mechanism. The cylinder is the part where you insert the key and twist a spring of a set of pins to lock or unlock the door.

There are either single or double-cylinder lock systems. For the single cylinder, there is only one space on the outer part and a knob on the inside where you can lock and unlock the door without a key.

In the case of double cylinder locks, you need a key to lock and unlock from both sides. The lock system lacks a twist knob to open from inside without a key.

Deadbolt Locks

Deadbolt locks, single or double cylinders, are among your home’s most secure front door locks. They have the locking cylinder installed in the door and usually lack a knob. Burglars have difficulty breaking deadbolt locks, making most attempts futile.

Mortise Locks

Mortise locks are similar to deadbolt locks though they have either a door knob or level. These locks have been used on front doors for decades, with regular technological improvements. They are robust, secure, and available in light and heavy-duty models.

The intricate mechanism parts of the mortise lock, including the cylinder and cam, are mounted in the door. These locks could last a lifetime when well handled. This could be an excellent choice for your front door security.

Padlocks

Padlocks are probably the most ancient type of locks discovered many years ago. The locks are mainly used for security enhancement, especially in the front doors.

Padlocks have a unique locking mechanism where a mobile metallic bolt locks into another static metal. They are available in two models: Rectangular/Square padlock and Circular/ Disc padlock. Unless the rectangular padlock is shrouded, the circular padlock is more secure and difficult to tamper with.

Doorknob Locks

Doorknob locks are among the most common locks used to secure front doors. The locking mechanism is housed in the knob, making it easier to vandalize with a hand tool. Though common, having it installed on your front door is quite insecure. Otherwise, you may need to consider using it along with a deadbolt lock for your front door for heightened security.

Electronic Locks/ Smart Locks

Technological inventions have in recent years taken place in almost all aspects of human life. In these, home security has not been overlooked. Electronic and intelligent mechanisms have been incorporated in some earlier invented locks. Moreover, there have been pure innovations in smart locks.

These locks have electronic gadgets with different features, ranging from biometric readers to remote sensing, as the key.
