A holiday-ready home is not just about warm ambiance, pretty decor, and delicious aromas of Christmas desserts.

It must also be clean, healthy, and pest-free. But sadly, most American homeowners forget about holiday season pest control. When you have a long to-do list, it is easy to overlook the concern.

Moreover, pesky intruders tend to hide when you are around and come out during late nights to pilfer your gifts and goodies.

Fortunately, you can take small steps to keep your home pest-free during the holidays. Here are the tips to follow you must follow for a stress-free holiday season.

Watch What You Bring-in

Homeowners bring home a lot of stuff during winters. From firewood to Christmas trees, wreaths, and decorative lights, everything has the potential to carry bugs. Ants, ticks, spiders, and termites can hide in plants.

Firewood serves as a perfect breeding ground for insects to survive and thrive. Even cardboard boxes that carry supplies can be culprits. Make sure to check everything you bring in. Shake the tree and wreaths and inspect firewood before taking them indoors.

Be Watchful

If you think insects and rodents hibernate in the cold season, you are right. But the sad part is that they hide inside homes, which is the reason you do not spot them outdoors.

Your home can be their hiding spot as they get food, water, and warmth easily. It is crucial to watch out for hiding pests. You may see visible signs like droppings or hear sounds instead of spotting pests. Also, inspect potential entryways like cracks and crevasses in doors and windows.

Get Professional Extermination Services

Whether you spot pests or suspect their presence, a pre-winter pest extermination service is a good idea. Winters are harsh in most of the US, including the Midwest.

It is best to call experts for pest control in the Midwest before snowfall starts and pests hide away from sight. Fall pest extermination ensures that your living space is clean and ready to welcome the festive season.

Store the Edibles Carefully

You may feel lazy during holidays, and it is easy to leave treats and sweets on the table after a late-night party. But you may end up inviting ants, cockroaches, and rats for a feast. Sending them off is easy if you do not leave tempting meals in reach.

Pack the leftovers in airtight containers and do not leave ingredients on kitchen counters. Transfer food from paper containers into sealed jars for protection against pests.

Go the Extra Mile with Cleaning

A clean home means pests have no place to hide, so make sure you clear the clutter even before decking up for holidays. Go the extra mile with daily cleaning as well.

Wipe away spills and crumbs from the countertop and sweep the floors every day. Make it a habit to take out the kitchen garbage before switching off the lights for the night. A little extra effort with cleanliness goes a long way in keeping pests at bay.

Pest control is an essential measure for a holiday-ready home. Start with professional extermination and do your bit throughout the season.
