Vinyl siding is very popular in new home construction. It’s relatively inexpensive and comes in many colors, so it is a versatile material that can be found across climates.

Composite siding can be made with bits of scrap wood compressed with resins, or you can use fiber cement siding, which is wood mixed with cement.

Another popular trend is adding stone as a complement to other types of siding since it can match with almost any of the aforementioned types.

But when there are problems with your siding or signs of vulnerability, it’s time to address them. Here are some warning signs for you to check your siding to determine if you need to call a professional.

Signs to Look For

Always check the perimeter of your house after a severe storm or other fierce weather conditions with high winds. But also be careful about “storm chasers.” They are not qualified, contractors.

Instead, they’re trying to profit off of others’ misfortune. If you’re looking for a qualified professional then visit jacksoncontractingsite.com. Here are some reasons why you would need to call them.

Cracked or Loose Siding

This is typically seen after a storm. A professional roofer will need to inspect it to determine if only the board needs to be replaced or if a complete replacement of your home’s siding is necessary.

Warped Siding

If the exterior of your siding has a bend in it, then that’s a sign of damage. Another way you can test for rot is to use a screwdriver and gently poke around the joints around the chimney or gutters. If it’s soft or spongy, then that means there’s rot.

Rotted siding

Some siding can develop dry rot, which makes it flaky or crumble. You can test your siding by gently tapping with a small hand tool and observing whether or not it splits or sounds hollow. If pieces begin to fall, then that’s a sign that you need to call a roofer immediately.

Higher Energy Costs

There could be any number of reasons why your energy bills have gone up, and one of them could be that your siding is damaged. Siding does a great job of insulating a home when it is properly maintained and in good condition.

Water Stains in Your Interior

If moisture is getting inside of your home then it can breed fungi. When you begin noticing that there are orange, yellow, or brown water stains on your walls or if the wallpaper is beginning to separate, then that means that you have a problem with the siding.

You may also have a problem with your roof, so you will want to have both of them examined.

Hire the Right Professional

Along with being able to provide you with regular maintenance, a professional will also be able to identify underlying problems causing your siding issues. They will also be able to fix them much faster than an individual without any experience.

Years of replacing siding and doing this type of work separate a decent job from the work of a master craftsman, so you want to hire someone with excellent customer reviews and years of working on homes in your community.
