Keeping Rodents Out of Your Car

You are about to see some tricks and ways to keep rodents out of your car in the following article:

How A Mouse Can Get into Your Car

You may think how is it possible for a mouse to get in my car when I have locked my car? Though you have locked your car properly, it is not a very big deal for a mouse to get in your car because they are very small in size and there are enough openings in your car for a mouse to get inside.

Most of the time a mouse gets in a car under the engine and after that, they make their way to other corners of the car.

Vents, holes around cables, pedal shafts, steering columns are some of the very common entry points for a mouse.

I can give you a tip, just grab one of the floor mats that you have, put it under the car and lie on it to see the entry points of a mouse under your car.

It will be easier for you then to mark the points and take the necessary steps onwards.

The Reason Why Rodents Choose Your Car to Get In

The model of your car or the color of your car is not the reason why rodents will choose it to live in. so don’t worry about models, every car, bus, or truck is a very attractive place for rodents to live in and build their nest.

Cars are very suitable places for rodents to live in because they can easily hide themselves from predators.

Another important reason behind it is the cold weather. When it is very cold outside, the engine compartment of your car can be a very warm and suitable place for rodents to take shelter.

Mice are very expert in chewing plastic and leather materials of cars. Once they chew your cars; seat cover or steering wheel cover, they become very suitable material for rodents to make their nest which will keep them warm from outside cold weather.

Sometimes we drop food or food wrappers inside our cars. The smell of these foods attracts the mice towards the car.

While one mouse gets inside your car the odor of its urine attracts other rodents and they feel this can be a safe place for them to stay.

When you put your car in a dirty parking place for a long time, rodents can think of your car as a safe place for their infestation.

These are some basic and main reasons why rodents get in your car but there can be some more reasons why they get attracted to your car.

If you care a lot about your car then you can visit this website autocarecamp.com I think they can give good advice on how to take care of your car.

Damages Done by Rodents to Your Car

Mice have very sharp teeth and that is the main equipment that they use to damage your car. Mice don’t only damage your cars’ interior, they also do some mechanical damage also.

Rats can chew the expensive seat covers of your vehicle. That may cost you some bucks to repair them. If you have a rare model of car, you may never find the original replacement of that damaged leather.

Rats can do some serious mechanical damages to your cars and you may be totally unaware of the damages.

It can be life-threatening for you and the passengers of your car as well. Rats love to chew wires.

They can chew any of the wires and you may face huge trouble while driving like the radio can go off, the lights can go off, and many more.

Even the nesting materials of rats can block your engine between the roads and cause you a very serious accident.

Rodents can be a very big risk for your health as well. They are very well known for spreading many dangerous diseases.

Rats love to make their nest inside a car beside the air filter most of the time.  The air you will breathe will directly come from there with the very dangerous viruses which a rat is carrying.

Ways of Keeping Rodents Out of Your Car

I am sure by now you are well aware of what rodents can do to your car. Now let’s take a look at what you can do to keep them out of your car:

  1. Clear the whole arena where you are about to park your car. Make sure you are not making your car the source of food and shelter for the rats. Clear the garbage from your garage.
  2. Make sure you don’t put any food or food wrappers inside your car. The smell of the food can attract the mice towards your car
  3. Try to park your car far from a place which you use to store food.
  4. When you are planning to park your car for a long period of time, try to steam clean your engine compartment and hood up the car.
  5. For a long time parking, it is better to put some traps or you can look for some rodent repellent for cars and put them inside to keep rodents away.
  6. Seal the entry points with unchewable materials.

If you still cannot keep them out of your car, put some traps inside your car where rats will get stuck.

You can also use some glue boards to catch them. But if you do so, you will have to check the traps at a regular interval and clean the rat corps.

One more thing, after cleaning the trap or glue board, never forget to clean your hands with a hand cleaner to stay safe from diseases that are contaminated by rodents.

Final Thought

Rodents love your car but I am sure you love it more than the rodents. So, do whatever you can to keep them away from your car.

Follow the steps I have shown you and don’t let them make your car a safe shelter. It will not only cost you bucks, but it will also put you in danger on roads and also can be a hazard for your health.
