How to Clean and Organize Your Garage the Easiest Way

When cleaning homes, people tend to forget their garage area. Perhaps, it’s because the spot is not visible from outside the house, and visitors don’t often look in its direction.

What you should know is that it’s completely wrong to neglect the regular upkeep of your garage. You go to your garage every single day; taking your car in and out for work.

It’s also where kids bring in their plays once it’s empty.

Leaving it cluttered with tools, toys, and junks can bring physical harm to anyone who enters the space. It simply becomes an unsafe environment for both people and vehicles.

Don’t let the cleaning work pile up, take these simple and easy steps to clean and organize your home garage.

Start With the Walls and Floor

Your garage walls can still be full of cobwebs and spiderwebs, even if you use it frequently. Make sure to get rid of them first before washing your walls.

Use a sponge when scrubbing your walls with detergent and warm water. For hard to reach areas by the ceiling, use a standing ladder or a durable stool.

According to Canadian Garage door repair Calgary owner Mark S: “For cleaning the floor, pressure washing is an effective method”.

Using a pressure washer machine allows you to remove dirt, dust, and grime without having to get down the floor.

A petrol powered pressure washer is way more powerful than any other jet washers (read UK reviews), it’ll allow you much faster cleaning too. You can go to an electric unit too depending on your demand.

In case you don’t have a pressure washer at home, you can attack hard-to-get stains with a detergent or cleaning agent.

Organize Your Cabinets and Tools

Make your storage cabinets work to your advantage. Don’t just throw items into cabinet shelves, categorize them in specific bins and tubs, and don’t forget to put a label.

You may also assign a locker to each family member, so it’s easier for them to look for their stored valuables in the garage.

To reserve floor space for your tune-ups, choose to mount your toolboxes on the wall. You can also make use of a converted filing cabinet for storing your garden tools such as rakes and shovels.

Thrown Away Useless Items

Putting junks into storage only crowds your garage. Maximize space by throwing away items that are no longer in use. Except for anything broken or damaged, you can also sell or donate to charity.

Separate Things that Don’t Belong to the Garage

Unless you have a lot of storage space in your garage, you should probably find a new home for your paper goods, propane tanks, and paint.

Propane tanks are fire hazards and best kept outdoors. Paper goods, on the other hand,  are likely to attract bugs, turning your garage home to these crawling insects.

Tidy up Your Garage Door

Don’t forget to wash clean an essential component of your garage—your garage door. Proper maintenance protects your garage door from early wear and tear.

Aside from door regular tune-ups by professionals, you have to do your part of keeping it clean from dirt debris.

A stiff brush or broom will do in removing loose debris clinging to your door.  Then, spray with a garden hose before wiping with warm water and detergent. Finally, grease and tighten all moving pieces.

In case you are able to spot any bent or malfunctioning piece, call for a garage door repair service like garage door repair in Surrey right away.

Avoid troubleshooting the repair problems of your door unless you are knowledgeable and well-experienced.

When is the Best Time to Clean Your Garage?

Garage cleaning is best done in spring. With the fine weather, it’s easier to sort things out in your garage. It’s a perfect time to do some paint renovation, too, if you’re up for it.

Aside from correct timing, you need to focus on creating a plan for the final functionality of your garage space. Having a plan can help you finish the cleaning work just in time before all the warm-weather activities start.
