Four Pressing Reasons to Remove a Tree from Your Property

There are some situations when a tree absolutely needs to be removed for your safety or the safety of your property.

Below are four important reasons to take care of a tree. Get familiar with each of them as well as signs that your tree needs removal and you’ll be safer as a result.

The Tree is Dying

One of the most dangerous types of trees is a rotting and dying tree. If you have a large tree on your property that is on its way out, it’s important to take care of the tree before it injures someone or damages structures on your property.

There are warning signs that your tree could be dying, and if you see enough of these signs, you should probably pay to have it removed. If you notice the tree isn’t growing leaves back like it once did in spring, it’s likely dying.

Rotting or dying trees also suffer from irregular bark patterns or large patches of missing bark. They may have mushrooms growing on the trunk or bark and suffer from lots of pest holes and damage.

Dying trees also commonly have dry and brittle branches that fall off easily and break easily. If you can snap off branches of the tree with ease, it likely doesn’t have much time left.

If you notice enough of these signs, your tree is likely dying, and you should get professional help to take care of it before it causes damage. You’re Suffering Damage from Invasive Roots

Different varieties of trees have different types of roots. Some trees have roots that grow vertically and will grow deep into the soil without spreading out too far around the tree.

Others have roots that grow horizontally and reach out hundreds of feet while remaining shallow in the soil. The second type of tree is the one you have to look out for. These trees have roots that will grow through driveways, foundations, sewer lines, pipes, walking paths, and more.

If you notice cracks in any of your structures, or you see physical roots growing around your structures, you likely have a nearby tree that’s the culprit.

It’s possible to leave trees with horizontal roots growing undisturbed if the roots aren’t causing you any trouble, but when you start noticing damage to your property from the roots, it’s time to look for a tree service to help you remove the pest plant before it does even more significant damage to your structure.

Always watch for signs of invasive roots around your property and take care of trees before they can cause too much damage to your property.

The Tree is Seriously Damaged from a Fire or Weather Condition

Even healthy trees can be seriously damaged by major storms and other extreme conditions. If you’ve recently been through a major weather event, such as a hurricane, a tornado, a serious ice storm, or your property has suffered from fires, you may have a damaged tree that can’t remain on your property any longer.

Look closely at the tree that’s been damaged to see how badly it’s injured. If the trunk of the tree is mostly intact and it hasn’t lost too many limbs from the event, it may be in good enough shape to continue growing properly.

If the tree suffered major damage to its trunk or it lost most of its limbs, you may have to consider having it removed. As long as the tree isn’t too loose or dangerous; currently you can wait for signs of decay before having it removed.

If the tree is so damaged that it’s already falling over or displaying major signs of decay, you should have it removed immediately.

The Tree is Dangerously Close to a Structure

Sometimes trees are just too close to homes, garages, and other structures for them to be able to remain. Whether you put an expansion on your home or you moved into a house with an existing tree that is growing over one or more of your buildings, trees that are too close to one of your structures should be removed for safety purposes.

Too close trees can do damage to your driveway, structure foundations, and more if it has invasive roots. The tree could also cause serious damage to the roof of your structure if it has overhanging limbs that are at risk of falling off.

Even a healthy tree should be removed if you’re worried it’s too close to your home or business and that it’s going to do major damage. Work with an expert to help plan the removal of any tree that needs to go.
