Well, fountains are undoubtedly a great addition to your pond. You can instantly change the entire outlook by adding a fountain to your garden.

Some people prefer to have a fountain to keep the water healthy. It’s because you have to install an ideal pump to make your fountain function at an optimum level. If you choose the wrong pump, then it won’t keep the water properly aerated.

Therefore, it could be an expensive mistake if you don’t invest enough time to conduct proper research to avoid mistakes while buying pumps for your fountains.

  1. Submersible Pond Pumps

Well, this can be installed in the deepest layer of a pond inside a skimmer box. Generally, these pumps don’t have any loud noise while it’s working. Also, you can easily install them and keep the water properly aerated.

However, if you have a small pond with little water, then this pump can properly function as it has a power of 50 GPH to 50,000 GPH. But make sure you don’t buy the pump containing oil as it may damage the aquatic life if it leaks after installation.

  1. Magnetic Drive Pump

The magnetic drive pump requires little to no maintenance and saves you a lot of money in the coming times. These are energy efficient which means you can save up on your electricity cost too.

However, this pump doesn’t have much head pressure so if you have a large fountain in your pond, then it may not be able to push the water properly. So, make sure you know your requirements prior to buying a pond pump.

  1. External Water Pond Pump

If you have a large-sized pond with over 1000-gallon water then an external water pond pump could be your ideal choice. These pumps are known for their reliability and power. However, these are a bit more expensive than the other pumps.

But, you can save on energy as they operate efficiently. External pond pumps also require little to no maintenance which means you won’t have to worry about cleaning or maintaining the pump every alternate day.

  1. Solar Powered Pump

The solar-powered pump is the optimum choice when you live in a place with enough exposure to sunlight. Also, if you face an electrical problem in your area and still want a fountain, then a solar-powered pump could be an ideal choice.

This is an expensive option but you can easily save up on the electricity cost and other costs as well in the near future.

  1. Utility Pumps

Utility pumps are not a great option when you buy pumps for fountains. But you can use these pumps to empty the pond. These are mainly a great choice for clearing your pond.

  1. Direct Drive Pump

A direct-drive water pump is a great choice for ponds with a fountain. The pumps don’t easily break down or but it takes a professional to repair the pump if it damages. So, you should be cautious enough prior to making your decision.

Mistakes to Avoid Prior to Choosing a Pond Pump

Choosing the right pond pump can be a bit daunting. People make a lot of mistakes when choosing the right pond pump for their fountains. However you can yield the utmost benefits of a fountain by installing the ideal pump. So, let’s take a look at the following mistakes to avoid prior to choosing a pump.

Not Calculating the Pond Size

The size of the pond plays a critical role in determining the size of the pump. If you avoid calculating the size of the pond, it won’t lead you to buy the ideal pump size. This means the pump won’t be able to circulate the water properly which further leads to a lower oxygen level in the pond. The aquatic life will immensely suffer due to the lower oxygen level in the water. So, make sure you calculate the pond size.

Ignoring the Head Pressure

Dynamic head pressure might sound critical for some people but the purposes of the head pressure are to provide the right proper force through the tubing. This determines the height, diameter, fitting of the tubing as well. Therefore, you can’t ignore the head pressure if you want the desired height of your waterfall.

Not Considering the Width of the Waterfall

Everyone wants the desired height as well as the width of their waterfall. After all, it amplified the beauty of your garden. So, it’s important to consider the width of the waterfall when you’re choosing the fountain pump.
