Living in a clean space can easily change your life for the better. Order in your room translates to order in your head and day-to-day life. If this is such an easy concept, then why do many people “choose” to be messy? It’s not as simple as it sounds.

Our environment often depends on our mental state. So, if your thoughts are disheveled, the chances are – your belongings will be as well.

One depends on the other, and it works both ways. Here’s where it gets good: it’s easy to influence our minds from the outside, and it’s even easier to sort out and organize our stuff.

Let’s uncover some secrets on how to organize what we have, throw away everything unnecessary, and keep the order intact.

1. Evaluate Your Space

Organizing your stuff begins with evaluating how much space you have to keep it. If you’re a student living in a dorm or one-bedroom apartment, you can afford to keep fewer things than a person living in a 2-story house with multiple storage rooms.

In this case, you need to assess what you can fit in there and get to cleaning out. Turn on your favorite music, get a paper writer to help do my paper, and concentrate on the task. It’s easier than you can imagine.

2. Take Everything Out

You need to start by making the biggest mess you’ll have in a long time. Just take out all of your stuff so you can see it. Our brains can easily forget what’s not visible all the time, so make sure to empty all your drawers to get started.

3. Sort Emergency Objects

Start by separating everything you might need in an emergency – the things you cannot live without. Take out medicine and things necessary for you to keep clean (shampoo, towels, shower gel, face cream, etc.) What things would you bring if you needed to get out of your house for a week? Gather them separately – you need to keep all of those.

4. Decide What Things Are Necessary For You

Now we need to check all the other things you have in your possession. You need to try to organize everything into separate categories. Once you have them, it’ll be easier to see what you have a lot of, multiples of some things, products past the expiration date, etc.

Try to be pragmatic about what you actually need and what can be thrown away or sent to your parent’s home or to a storage unit.

If you have a lot of old studies notes you’re not sure you’re going to need, you can digitize the handwritten ones or find one of the top paper writing services that can help you with it. No matter how people might try to avoid it, our lives are already heavily digital, so it’s best to use it to your advantage.

5. Find a Place for Every Single Thing

Now that you have everything categorized and all the excess separated to throw away or donate, it’s time to find a place for it. It’s important to keep track of where everything goes so that you don’t forget about it, buy more, and start hoarding. When everything is under control, you won’t be stressed about looking for it or missing it when it’s needed.

6. Tackle the Clothes

This needs to be a separate section on its own. Let’s open up Pandora’s box. Clothes are the most problematic stage of cleanup for most people. They often have some significant value and memories connected to them.

We choose our clothes to be visually appealing to us, so there’s no question that we like them and want to keep ’em. We’ve developed a little checklist for throwing things away to help you part with some stuff.

▢   Is it necessary?

You need to think about the opportunities this piece of clothing gives you. If you really need a smart suit to go to more formal events, there’s no need to get rid of it. But if you have 10 hoodies of the same fit and only wear 3 of them, the choice is obvious.

▢   Does it bring you joy?

Does this thing have any significance to your life? If you’ve been wearing it repeatedly and you feel that, by disposing of it, you’ll have an empty spot in your wardrobe, keep it. Otherwise, it should go in the donation pile.

▢   Did you get good use out of it?

When you feel like a clothing piece has had a long run with you, it turns to run down and unflattering, there’s no point in waiting anymore – put it in the trash pile.

▢   Is it something you hoard?

Be honest with yourself, do you hoard a lot of one thing? Be it colorful socks, the same type of underwear, or a collection of necklaces, it’s time to sort them out, pick the ones you know you’re going to use, and donate everything else.

▢   How will your life change if you throw it away?

We often think that our lives will be harder if we’ll have less stuff. In reality, it’s easy to get piled on by all the things you buy and keep, so it’ll only be easier if you get rid of everything extra.

Don’t be afraid of not having a scarf that perfectly matches your new coat. Get one that will be universal and match more outfits. This way, you’ll save time on getting ready and picking an outfit and money on buying a new one every time.

7. Enjoy Your Freedom

If you feel exhausted by all the things you have and the mess in the drawers and your closet, it’s your queue to do something. The amount of relief and pride you’ll feel after the cleanup is unmatched. It will also help you free your mind from worries about the mess outside and focus on your well-being.

Do not put off clearing out your living space until spring or next weekend or holidays. If you got interested in cleaning right now – capture the moment. Start off with an organized home right now and live in the space you will enjoy today.
