Upgrade to Energy Efficient Household Appliances

While energy-efficient household appliances may be expensive to purchase, they can help you to save energy and water and therefore pay for themselves in the long run. Look out for the energy efficient stickers on household appliances. Where possible, choose A-rated devices, which are the most energy efficient.

Use Your Thermostat

The average household spends at least half of its energy budget on heating. If your boiler has a programmable thermostat – use it! If it doesn’t have one, get one installed. Turn down the temperature of your boiler by one degree and you could save as much as 3% on your heating bill.

Install Green Water Fixtures

Low-flow water fixtures, such as toilets and showers, use less water than conventional models and can slash your water use by as much as 70%.

Install Energy Saving Light Bulbs

Energy saving light bulbs use much less energy than standard bulbs and they can last up to ten times longer too. Energy saving light bulbs are available in a range of colors and styles, meaning that you won’t be short for choice around the home.

Unplug Your Chargers

Once you’ve finished charging your phone or laptop, make an effort to unplug the charger. If you leave chargers plugged in, they will continue to use electricity, even when your devices aren’t attached to them.

Lower the Temperature of Your Water

While a long, hot shower can help to soothe away the stress of a hard day’s work, hot water heaters use considerable energy. Lowering the water temperature by 20 degrees will not only reduce your bills by around 10% but will save considerable energy too.
