What Will Replace Gas Boilers in 2025

It is perfect for winter and cold days. However, there may be a need to dispose of it before 2025. As you may know, a gas boiler is a type of heating device that supports gas to heat water in your household.

The said hot water is then routed thru the pipes to the location of radiators for heating as well as to whether it’s a cylinder or straightforwardly to your taps for the heated water.

Why Is There a Need to Replace Gas Boilers?

As part of the Future Homes Standard, it was announced in spring 2019 that the fossil-fuel types of heat exchangers will not be implemented in any domestic newly built residences starting from 2025.

According to Boilergrants.org.uk boilers, “Gas and oil boilers are examples of these systems. The choice was part of the government’s plan to combat global warming and rising carbon emission levels to achieve zero-carbon status by 2050.”

As per the Committee on Climate Change, approximately 14% of greenhouse gases emerge from our homes, primarily from gas boilers. So, according to them, starting from 2025, there should be no new homes using gas boilers.

Instead, everyone should be using energy sources that are low in carbon and, at the same time, have ultra-high levels of efficiency in energy like hydrogen boilers. They also added how homes should have excellent ventilation, which is framed as well as possible.

What Will happen to the Gas Boilers?

While the government is effectively carrying out measures to reduce the number of new gas boilers implemented, it is still unlikely to be banned entirely soon.

However, according to the Future Homes Standard, they aim to reduce the number of new property properties having gas boilers placed reducing the carbon emissions by 80 percent on average by 2050. Ideally, with additional energy-efficient heating solutions, the UK is going its way to meeting this target.

At the moment, all prospective and current households are free to keep their existing gas boilers or even have new versions installed.

Such appliances continue as being the most popular method of warming a shelter and supplying hot water, with approximately 95 percent of homes having one. Even though the combustion of natural gas produces co2 from the atmosphere, many gas heaters are highly efficient.

The advantage of using other types of heating systems is that they will often be operated by sustainable power, which a gas boiler cannot do.

In addition, a few gas heaters are now exported and advertised as Hydrogen ready, with the ability to accept a 20% hydrogen mix as a portion of the gas mix; this is deemed a green and sustainable alternative.

What Will Replace Gas Boilers

If you wonder what will replace gas boilers if it is disregarded by 2025, we have prepared some alternatives that you can consider.

1. Electric Boilers

An electric boiler functions similarly to a gas boiler, except that it heats the water with electricity rather than gas. These are generally even more efficient and convenient than gas versions.

Like a heat pump, an electric boiler will not be 100 percent Carbon dioxide impartial if the energy it uses is generated by burning fossil fuels. Again, though, using solar cells or other types of renewable energy will reduce carbon emissions.

2. Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are expected to be the most suitable replacement for gas boilers. This equipment operates by absorbing natural heat from the water, air, ground, or water using a refrigerant.

This refrigerant enters the compressor to raise the temperature, which is used to warm the system’s water. When the water has reached the desired temperature, it can be pumped to one’s heaters or provided to your warm pipes.

3. How Heat Pumps Work

An external heat compressor is the most straightforward system to implement because it uses a fan to pull in airflow over the heat exchanger.

At the same time, a geothermal heat pump necessitates pipework to be placed across your home to collect atmospheric heat from the ground. Because of the installation complexity, the latter framework is more expensive.

The current problem with mains power is that it is generated using fossil fuels, so most heating systems aren’t entirely zero-carbon.

But even so, if you are indeed able to generate electricity on your property, such as with solar panels, the heating system may run 100 percent renewable energy, particularly if you have a battery bank.

Combining solar cells with this sort of system can help to reduce costs by up to 40%. Though you will need to buy solar panels, you will probably recoup this cost within several years.

4. Solar Heating Systems

Even though solar systems don’t specifically eliminate the consumption of gases, it is still beneficial in reducing fossil fuel usage.

And as you may know, this is a huge deal and helps the environment. There are solar panels that produce electricity, but the solar heating system directly heats your household water.

How Solar Heating Systems Works

Through the help of solar collectors, which are attached to the rooftop, the heat is absorbed from the sun more effectively.

These alternatives can be placed alongside your current gas boiler and some may operate independently, depending on the amount of sunlight available. The device is ideal for rooftops, sloping tops, and wall mounting, and can operate in either vertical or horizontal mode.

The solar concentrator can also yield hot water in cooler temperatures, making the whole thing suitable for use in the United Kingdom. When particularly in comparison to solar PV, solar energy collectors require significantly less space for installation.

The Bottomline

It is wholesome how the government is all out in reaching the target of reducing gas boilers by the year 2025. Everyone should care about the environment since it is our only reachable natural resource.

So, if you are still on the verge of decision-making whether to disregard gas boilers, use them alongside solar equipment, or have another alternative, you should consider it as it will also add value to your home.

We all aim to live in an environment that has natural heat, cold, and seasons. If we are too impulsive and consumed in heaters, no one will suffer but us. Hence, to end this article, let us all consider a better future for everyone.
