Glass Painting

Fine handwork is always on-trend. Сoloring the glass, you can turn a transparent bottle into a work of art, an original decor for home or office. It is better to choose durable paints that are not subject to abrasion or cracking.

There is a large selection of all kinds of paints now. There is a lot of paint sets for novice artists and professionals who have been engaged in painting for a long time.

Without knowing the characteristics of the compositions, it is difficult to choose the right one. Among the wide variety, you can find washable ones for decoration and indelible for household utensils.

Nowadays you can paint any glass from bottle to window, so crystal wine glasses decorated with ornaments are can become an original gift.

Acrylic Paints

It is a durable ecologically pure material on a water base, without smell. The film-forming polymer is becoming strong under the influence of air, and it takes up to 12 hours for complete drying.

The time of complete drying is indicated in the instructions. The consistency of acrylic paints resembles oil analogs.

Wide brushes are used to apply the pattern, spray cans are used to create a background. While the dye has not thickened, it is easy to correct the contours with a damp cloth or sponge.

Silicate-Based Paints

This is heat-resistant silicate coating consist of flux and dye. On technology, they are fired at a temperature of +550…600 ° C., and after it, they become transparent or opaque.

They are used for coloring everyday dishes, as they do not wash off even in the dishwasher. Now, most of the sets of silicate-based dyes consist of 4 base colors, mixing them you can produce any shades.

Stained Paints

It is customary to call mixtures that form transparent films after drying. These are quite popular paints that do not require firing, creating a mother-of-pearl effect due to the smallest reflective particles or sequins in the form of hearts or stars.

Polyurethane Dyes

Waterproof stained glass painting mixes become durable without firing. They dry up to several days, but they are not afraid of humidity.

It is necessary to work with polyurethane compositions with extreme caution, as when drawing they immediately stick to the surface.

For dilution, it is advisable to use special solvents to eliminate clumping. Light-tight structural paints for glass imitating stone and leather are also created on the basis of a polyurethane base.

Adhesive Vinyl Sheets

A fairly simple method of decoration is pasting a specially designed CraftOnline adhesive vinyl sheet. These films are distinguished by the variety of patterns, colors, and shades.

So, when choosing this method, it will be easy to decorate the window in any style. In addition, this is one of the cheapest and fastest methods.

Decoration of Glass with Plasticine

This way of decorating is great for working together with children. Using this material, it will be possible to create masterpieces of art. It is enough just to print out stencils for the decoration, and then in relation to the pattern, colors are selected.

Next, each of the colors of plasticine is glued to a certain area of the drawing and a picture is obtained. The choice of drawing in this case is unlimited. In addition, you can create glass compositions inside.

For example, after making fish, sea animals, algae out of plasticine, put them in a glass jar, decorate it with sea salt, which will simulate water droplets. Place pebbles, shells on the bottom, decorate the jar in a sea theme, and the decorative aquarium is ready.

Liquid Glass

It is a very popular material for creating decorative products, widely used by designers and creative personalities.

It is easy to work with, and you can both decorate various surfaces and create all kinds of elements: hair clips, earrings, beads, figurines, vases, flowers.

In the interior, you can decorate any surface with liquid glass: for this, it is enough to put various small objects under a layer of material and let it cool down.

Decoupage

The masters from Venice city noted the high cost of Chinese household items decorated with the finest paintings or carving. But since they did not know the technique, an imitation was created.

A pattern was applied to a dish or piece of furniture, most often it was a thin fabric with some pattern, and then the surface was covered with several layers of varnish. Sometimes their number reached 30 or more.

Varnishing will give it a matte finish, but at the same time the drawing will gain depth, and at the same time will not interfere with the penetration of light. Today, decoupage occupies one of the first places among modern types of needlework, so there are full of all kinds of blanks and materials for decoupage for every taste.

Decoupage on glass is one of the most popular.  Its simple blanks can be found in any house – every person has cans, plates, bottles, or vases, and the technique of the decoupage is quite simple and interesting.

Another type of decoupage is the inverse. It got its name because of the specifics in the application of layers. Most of them are applied in reverse order. For this type of decor, only transparent blanks without a pattern are suitable.

So, do not forget that your imagination is endless and good luck in creating your own masterpiece. We hope that this article helped you find some new ideas on art glass painting.
