Therefore, you need to know how to transport house flowers, so that the plants will not die from the heat, not be affected by the cold, not damaged, or not broken during the move. It is especially difficult to transport plants over long distances.

For example, when moving to another city or abroad. This is especially important if the moving takes place in cold weather or if the transport involves a sudden change in climatic conditions. To ensure the safety of houseplants when moving it is necessary to prepare and pack them properly.

Preparing Plants for Shipment

First of all, the plants need to be packed before loading them into transport. For packing will do:

  • Cardboard boxes that are larger than the size of the pots
  • Sheets of paper
  • Polythene materials
  • Bubble wrap and other suitable packing materials

Approximately three days before transporting the plants, stop watering them. This is to allow the soil in the pots to dry out and compact. When driving on a bumpy road, the loose, soft soil does not hold the root system in place and the soil will simply fall out of the pots.

In addition, you can provide each pot with a circle cut out of cardboard to hold the soil firmly. And cover the base of the flower with it. Cardboard will not interfere with and dry earthen coma. You can wrap the pots in garbage bags, and tie them at the base of the trunks.

Boxes will be useful for packing plants. One or more pots can be placed in cardboard boxes or plastic boxes. The void between the pots should be filled with paper, foam rubber, cloth, or any other suitable sealant. Medium-sized plants should be secured in the soil with small stakes, tying them with ribbons or tape.

And how to transport large flowers? High Stream Moving’s team knows the answer. Tall plants are transported in bags, first pulling the foxes to the trunks. The crown should be carefully folded along the trunk and secured with foil. This principle is used to pack spruces before selling them for the New Year’s holidays.

How to transport a large flower if the plant has stiff prickly leaves? It is wrapped with stiff paper, cardboard, and tied up. Styrofoam can also be used to protect the thorns. Then large plants are placed in bags and secured with tape.

If the boxes are not transparent and close completely, you need to mark where the top and bottom of the container, and make slits for ventilation. Then you can consider the basic rules on how to transport flowers.

Transportation Of Houseplants

The following rules must be followed when transporting plants safely.

  • It is best to transport plants in special cargo vans that have straps to hold them in place.
  • Potted plants and their packaging should be put into the vehicle as to the last priority.
  • If possible, boxes and crates should be tied down firmly and secured.
  • Do not place heavy objects in the vicinity of the plants. These can fall over, damaging the pots or the flowers themselves.
  • Open and ventilate the vehicle during the journey. If moving internationally in frosty weather, you can put hot water bottles in the boxes or next to them. This will save the plants from frost.

Transportation Of Houseplants

You also need to know how to transport flowers in the car. When transporting plants, do not put them in a small trunk or on the roof of the car. In the small trunk of a passenger car, flowers will suffocate.

And on the roof, they will either be blown away by the wind, or they will die from the sun or cold. But you can try placing pots on the back seats or your lap. But this method of transportation is not the best way to go! Therefore, in some cases, you need to enlist the help of professionals when moving.

Services of a Moving Company

Professional moving companies usually have specialized transport and packing materials. Specialists:

  • arrive at the agreed time;
  • Help to pack plants; move boxes and cartons;
  • Know how to transport flowers in winter;
  • Will calculate the best route;
  • will not allow losses;
  • Ensure the safety of indoor flowers when transported over long distances.

Here it should be noted that special rules exist for those who plan to transport plants in pots across the border.

Transporting Plants Across the Border

Is it possible to transport flowers across the border? According to the general rules, it is possible to transport plants across the border. Plants must be packed correctly. If air transportation is intended, they are not transported in pots with soil, but in bags or boxes with a wet cloth.

Plastic containers can also be used. In this form, plants are carried in the cabin with hand luggage. In the airplane, flowers must be placed in areas that are freely accessible for inspection by phytosanitary control services.

Arrival on-Site and Installation of Plants

In warm weather, you should immediately take the plants out of their wrapping, water them with warm water, and put them in a sunny place, even if they like shade.

In winter, it is better to wait a little while for the flowers to warm up in the boxes. Do not fertilize the plants until they are used to the new conditions and give new shoots.
