The tiny house movement continues to grow in western countries, including America.

Many people plan to leave their city apartment behind and build a tiny house to travel across town. At the same time, others look for a beautiful plot to put their tiny house in and live in the midst of nature. People are more than happy to downsize their lifestyle until they want more space.

How to Plan for Long-Term Tiny House Living?

A tiny house can be the perfect accommodation for a couple, but when they decide to have a baby, they feel the need for extra space. In such a scenario, many people sell their tiny house altogether and move back to a regular size apartment that comes with a mortgage.

But then again, others find fascinating ways to make things work and continue to live in tiny houses. Continue reading this article to learn valuable tips on how you can make a sustainable living in a tiny house.

Add a Guest Loft

when you are building a tiny house, have enough space for a guest sleeping loft. This extra space will come in handy when a friend decides to stay overnight.

You can host people over comfortably without forcing them to leave when the night comes. Furthermore, the guest loft can be an additional storage space for your clothes and other items.

Go off the Grid

While living in a tiny house, many people have their house plugged with a source of traditional electricity. Unfortunately, this setup restricts the moveability of the house itself.

Instead of depending on a conventional electrical system, you can go off-grid and install a solar system on the roof of your home. Installing a solar panel gives you the freedom to park your car in the middle of nowhere and be self-sufficient.

  • At times, many tiny houses are parked next to one another, making a community of their own. It is necessary to have a sense of community, mutual understanding, and respect for others’ living styles.
  • Having a community also allows one to enjoy additional space and amenities. For example, one can reap the benefits of community solar power installed in a shared area.

Anyone wanting to use solar energy can plug into the system and utilize the same without worrying about power recharge. Everyone can bear the cost of the electricity and may invest in purchasing more solar panels.

  • The community can also utilize additional space for rainwater harvesting. For places that do not have a brook or stream passing by, rainwater is often the only natural drinking water source.

Another Tiny House

It would be wise to set up your tiny house in a land with enough space for another tiny house. As your family grows, additional space might be required. Having multiple babies requires more space.

When a child grows up, he would like to have some privacy of his own with friends coming over.

Now, in a tiny house, having privacy from one’s parents is not possible because of the space crunch. Therefore, sharing two tiny houses seem to be a better idea for a growing family.
