How to Save Space Around the Home

Hopefully, by the end of this article, you should have some good ideas on how you can save space and fall back in love with your home. So let’s jump straight into it.

Being Smart with The Furniture

Firstly most people have too much stuff, so when you add furniture that doesn’t fit your home into the mix it makes the problem larger than it should be.

It’s too late to suggest other furniture at this point but don’t worry there are some solutions that you can apply to your problem.

Firstly, take a good look at your rooms that have too much furniture or ill-fitting furniture and try to redesign the layout of your room.

You may find this difficult to start but play around with the layout of your room and you will soon get the hang of it.

Get Rid of Any Items You Don’t Need

Getting rid of items you don’t need can free up space so your furniture fits better.

For example, a huge bookshelf may look impressive but if you have overfilled the bookshelf and now your books are in boxes or other storage spaces you could consider selling them and purchasing the digital equivalents.

The same can be said for old movies or DVDs, there are digital converting services out there that can help take your movies and make them digital.

So rather than having old VHS or DVDs taking up space in your house, you can store them on a hard drive. Converting 100+ movies to one hard drive is going to free up so much cupboard space in your home.

You may also have CDs that could need converting too, all of this seems a little bit much but if you have filled your cupboards with all of your old media it can soon add up.

Even if you have one cupboard with all of these old bits of media you can store so much if you get rid of the clutter.

Build into The Walls

Building into the walls or gaps in your home can allow you to store much more of your valuables. It also looks great as you can use this new storage space to hold quirky items such as your old books.

Not many people have built-in libraries in their home so added features such as this not only adds character to your home but it also makes it far more attractive to potential buyers if you were ever going to sell your home.

Remove Doors

Removing certain doors in your home can give the appearance of more space. Obviously, be cautious with this one as removing the wrong doors can just be plain weird. Don’t remove the bathroom door, but a kitchen or pantry door can be just fine.

Hold a Jumble Sale

When you have moved your room around, built into your home, and removed any clutter there is only so much more you can do to free up space.

One option you have is to hold a jumble sale for those items you really don’t need anymore.

Another option is to hire a storage container, these days they are quite cheap and much cheaper than moving home that’s for sure.

One word of advice when renting a storage unit is to shop around and see what companies have the best deals.

You should also make sure that you aren’t locked into any long-term commitments as you never really know what the future will hold and having a commitment for a few months when you don’t need it can be an expense that you don’t need.

Conclusion

Above are a few of the ways in which you can create more space within your home without having to spend too much money.

If you do have a bigger budget you can also consider adding an extension to your home. Extensions are expensive but adding one not only gives you more space but also makes your home more valuable.
