I am not going to go as far as saying my wife loves doing laundry now, but I can say the laundry room is now one of her favorite rooms in the house.
Since we decided to devote a weekend to spruce it up, I do find her lingering in there a bit more and laundry does not seem to pile up quite as high as it previously did.
Often, one of the aspects most laundry rooms are lacking is good lighting. It is ideal to have a window in your laundry room with an abundance of sun bursting through it.
If you have this, consider yourself very lucky. You can simply pick up a window casing kit from your local hardware store for a quick fix.
With these kits, all you need to do is make a few cuts to get the trim down to the size of your window and shoot a few nails in here and there and you have instantly dressed up your room.
If you are in the no window category and have an existing light fixture or single-socket overhead this is another easy fix.
Simply find an affordable flush mount or pendant fixture with multiple bulbs. This becomes a two-for-one fix as you will get increased lighting as well as added ambiance.
Replacing flooring can seem daunting or even expensive. Don’t fret just yet! I know some laundry rooms are located in basements with concrete floors but this can be a blessing in disguise.
Paint can go a long way and be a super-easy way to liven things up and create a more cohesive space.
Another easy option is one of my favorites, peel and sticks tile. If you don’t feel up to tackling either of these.
You can easily just find a large rug that’s in keeping with the look you are going for, throw a pad underneath and you’ve quickly added comfort and cohesion to your space.

It probably should go without saying that the ideal laundry room has a working washer and dryer unit.
Yet, I am amazed how long we ourselves lived with a washing machine that didn’t work if we selected the “small load” option and a dryer that took two spins to get clothes clean.
Well, suffice it to say, when we finally tackled our laundry room, I called an appliance repair company to get our units back in working order. Why did we wait so long?
Some laundry rooms already have a utility sink installed, you probably know the kind of referring to.
Our old one made my wife cringe whenever she had to use it. It had clearly endured years of wear and tear to contain some messy projects of ours and the previous owners.
It had stains and teeny tiny faucet handles, ugly exposed legs with useless space underneath. We swapped this one out for an updated large white sink with a nice handheld sprayer faucet and storage cabinet below.
The basin is much easier to wipe clean and does not hold onto paint stains like the former. The cabinet is great for storing cleaning products and laundry detergent to keep it all organized and out of sight.
Another missing link in many laundry rooms is somewhere to actually put the clean clothes. Having a counter for folding clothes can increase the overall function of the space.
This can be as simple as an old table or desk with a fresh coat of paint. Hanging storage should not be overlooked either.
Purchasing a folding rolling rack is a simple fix, but for a more visually appealing option, a closet rod and shelf combo can also be installed.
It may seem silly but adding in a few decorative pieces can take your laundry room from downright drab to a perfectly curated space worthy of oohs and ahhs.
Take a little bit of time to add in some plants, quirky photos, or silly framed quotes or signs.
You won’t regret the attention you gave to this space once it is all said and done. You will probably want to make every day, laundry day!
