Pendant lights are trendy. They hang from the ceiling, are adjustable in height, and are suitable for both general lighting and accent lighting.
Immonen reveals which models are currently in demand and what to look for when choosing the right pendant luminaire.

Pendant Lamp as a Variant of the Hanging Lamp
Pendant lights are a special form of pendant light. The terms are often used synonymously and not selectively.
Iris Vollman is a lighting expert and explains the characteristics: Pendant lights are lights that are suspended from the ceiling. Often several lights are combined into a group or operated on rails.
Since three to five lights should be used in large rooms, the most subtle pendant lights in groups are well suited for illuminating a room or a special area.
The Right Place for the Pendant Lamp
Pendant lights are suitable for almost all rooms. They are very popular above the dining table in the living room or the large kitchen.
There the lights are used for accent lighting. Their light emphasizes the table and separates it from its surroundings. This creates an island in the room and a private atmosphere, provided that the light intensity is chosen appropriately.
Pendant lights are therefore an important part of many lighting concepts.
So that the lamp above the table creates a nice atmosphere and does not become a nuisance, you should follow a few rules.
Pendant lights can hang low above the table to wrap the dining area in a beautiful glow.
However, the minimum distance to the tabletop should be 60 centimetres so that the people sitting at the table can look each other in the eye without being dazzled.
A warm light source with lots of red components creates a pleasant and romantic atmosphere there in the evening.
Pendant lights are ideal if the light colour and illuminance can be set manually.
This is particularly important at the trend-setting multifunctional tables- So where breakfast is in the morning, children do their homework in the afternoon and parents sit with friends over a glass of wine in the evening.
Pendant lights are also well suited to typical workplaces, for the example above the worktop in the kitchen or at the desk. Then the light sources must provide a good level of brightness and are also glare-free.

Targeted Illumination with Pendant Lights
Pendant lights are particularly suitable for illuminating dining tables for home decor.
Placed in the middle above the table, it is perfectly illuminated and placed in the centre of the room. But not only here pendant lights come into their own, but they are also ideal as reading lamps in a corner of the living room.
When using reading lamps, make sure that they have an opaque lampshade so that the lighting is sufficiently centred. It is also important to use lamps that emit all of the light downwards.
Pendant Lights and Furnishing Styles
Pendant lights are offered in different styles and can be easily integrated into different room concepts. Pendant lights look quite modern, which is why they tend to fit into an appropriately designed environment.
This can be, for example, the industrial look or also Scandinavian and urban designed rooms.
Pendant Lights are Trendy
There is a large selection of pendant lights in stores. “Most of the pendant lights are currently pendant lights. They are very trendy, ”says Vollmann.
The colour variants offered are rather reserved. “The predominant basic colours for the lights are black, white, and metal tones.”
Semicircular or teardrop-shaped lampshades made of metal – preferably in groups of three or five – are among the classics. Glass bodies are also popular.
These can also have different shapes, sizes, or colours and be hung at different heights.
The big furnishing trend”Individuality” also affects the world of lamps. Design pioneers rely on different lights, such as round, semicircular and curved lights that are connected by the suspension.
This enables different light impressions and can be individually adapted to the conditions in the room. Examples are also very modern in which a lamp hangs on several fixings.
Such designs look like works of art, reflect the industrial style well, and can also be combined with rough materials. But be careful: such conspicuous objects can take up too much space in small and low rooms.
Pendant lights with a shade made of a thin wire mesh look very fine and at the same time reduced and modern. They emit a lot of light, which is more likely to be scattered than targeted to emphasize a single area.
Modern LED light strips as pendant lights require little space and are very functional – dimmers or adjustable luminous colours are often part of the basic equipment.
Find the Right Pendant Light
The choice of pendant lamp should not only be based on personal taste or the existing furnishing style but also take into account the functionality of the lamp.
We recommend lights that can be easily adjusted in height with one hand movement. “Pendant lights that can be adjusted using a touch dimmer are particularly practical.
The brightness can be reduced with a simple touch of the lamp cord without getting up, ”says Vollmann. The expert also recommends paying attention to the quality before choosing the lamp and getting detailed information.
“The cheapest property is not necessarily the best. Test seals should be present. After all, it is also about safety. “
